Hey without the fouling you don't see the ending of NC State / Houston.

Even though I was rooting for Kansas, I didn't like that game any better.

It was the Jayhawks' own fault they had a seemingly insurmountable deficit -- but, wait, let's play freeze tag, and then we'll decide the game at the free-throw line.

That's not basketball. And it penalizes the team that has victory in its grasp if the game isn't stopped so everyone can play a different kind of game right at the most crucial juncture.

And then it takes 20 minutes to wind up the final two minutes.

Allowing a team to advance the ball by using a timeout creates more buzzer-beater opportunities and, therefore, more drama.

I have a personal theory about the selection committee that I may have shared before.

I'm convinced that the committee puts mid to low majors in a spot where one of them can make a deep tournament run.

And then a couple more where they can make it exciting or pull the first round upset, but then get hammered in the next game.

My reasoning is, besides that's pretty much the way the tournament has went for the last decade, is that close games and upsets drive ratings. If you got a 15 seed hanging with a 2, then no one is going to turn the channel.

Almost all the mids to lows are guard orientated; all the committee has to do is match them against a guard-dominated team and see what happens.

I'm not trying to imply the committee rigs the brackets but my guess is they try to create exciting games that in other playoff formats would be turds.

Anyone want to buy into my theory that CBS/ TBS tries to sync their commercials so that it if you switch games during a time out to see another game you are still getting a commercial and not game.

    How would that benefit them?

I don't disagree with you. But that's 20 minutes that you're actually watching, and that's what the NCAA cares about. They need the chance of a close finish. (See the second part of my post, about the NFL and the two-point conversion.)

Also, in this particular example, it is worth noting that Calipari decided to just have his team suck at free throws all season long. It's like the Hack-A-Shaq strategy -- there is a way to beat it. Make the free throws.

On a slightly smaller scale, that's what Temple did to N.C. State on Saturday. N.C. State came back from about 20 down, cut it to a single-possession game, then Temple just nailed free throw after free throw until time ran out. It was slow motion drama, but drama nonetheless.

Based on everyone's reaction to him, including Moddy's point that he has "a certain song" in his head, perhaps this ain't his first time at the rodeo.

    Perhaps he's been removed before.

However, that would then open up questions about how permanent a banning is, huh?

That's a good point. A banned poster has fewer privileges, if any.

No. There's so many commercials that you are bound to turn channels and see yet another commercial with Barkley or the guy and those annoying kids. Its just good math.
