I know Syracuse did it last year. The Orange went from the 9 seed in the Big East to a 5 seed in the NCAAs, mostly because the committee has the attention span of a 3-year-old. Win your conference tournament and the regular season doesn't matter.

I would much rather see that (even if I disagree with it) than the No. 5 team in the nation draw a No. 6 seed, as was the case with Gonzaga not too long ago.

If Nevada wants a 4 seed, it should go beat someone. An 0-1 record against the RPI top 50 doesn't cut it. Duke, the team everyone loathes, has played 17 games against the RPI top 50. If Nevada played that schedule, it would be headed to the NIT.

So if Duke shits the bed and loses its ACC tourney opener is it still a six seed?

I'm sure Nevada has been ignoring the big-time teams eager for 40 minutes of run.

The beauty of SOS is the mid-majors can never win the argument.

Every year, the last teams to get at-large bids are 11th or 12th seeds, because the lower seeds are teams from one-bid conferences that get automatic bids. So to be projected a No. 11 or 12 seed is very much on the bubble.

The problem I have with Missouri State is that after the Wisconsin win, they did nothing to enhance their profile. They had Creighton beat in Omaha and folded, lost twice more to them and twice to Southern Illinois. The Winthrop game and Creighton game in the Valley tournament were embarrassments.

Their "official" record is 21-10, because one of their wins was over a D-2 school. Why a team needing to beef up its nonconference schedule for NCAA Tournament time schedules a D-2 team is another matter entirely.

And from what I hear, Hinson is very much on the hot seat, and probably will not be back either way. Whether it's his decision or the school's depends on whether they get an NCAA bid.

The beauty of being a mid-major is you get to be ranked No. 10 in the country without beating anyone.

Uh huh. Mid-majors get to cruise right into the field. OK then.

Tell it to Drexel when the Dragons are left out this weekend despite 13 road wins, including two Big East wins and a win over Creighton, or Old Dominion when it's left out despite beating top 10 Georgetown. Guaranteed one--if not both--those teams is out.

    Selection committee: Play better teams!

Major conference teams: We're not playing the mid-majors! We might lose!

    It really is beautiful.

Old Dominion is 4-3 against the RPI top 50 and finished second in its league. It deserves a spot and it will probably get one. Drexel will probably get squeezed out like Hofstra did last year. Of course, Drexel finished fourth in the Colonial and lost in the conference semis. Not a great case.

Again, that just shows you how pitiful Nevada's schedule has been. One game against the RPI top 50? Get in the back of the line. You'll have to beat good teams in March since you haven't all season.

Granted no major conference team is probably going to play Nevada on the road (Gonzaga would work here, too), but did Nevada have any offers to hit the road to play one of the big boys?

If that is the case, you can't say Nevada is completely innocent.

I'm starting to have this hunch that Drexel gets in. They at least should. Heck, I'd rather see them than Florida State, unless the Noles knock off UNC Friday.

There is no way Drexel gets in as the 4th-place team in the CAA. NONE.
