It's happened before to ACC and SEC teams.

Winning the Big South tournament is not a special achievement. Trust me on this one. Only one team in that league other than Winthrop was above 270 in the RPI going in. And the last two years will have no consequence on this year's Missouri State team. None whatsoever. The committee will look at this year's team, and that's it.

And that Santa Clara win? Who cares? Santa Clara is No. 93 in the RPI. That won't even register. The only top 50 wins are against Wisconsin and the two against Bradley. Put that profile up against someone like Clemson or Florida State or even Illinois, and it's going to get torn apart. Missouri State has a chance, yes, but to even nudge them anywhere near lock category is a mistake.

The problem is that Missouri State had so much back from last season that the expectation was that they should at least split with Creighton and SIU. And it was home losses to teams like UNI (a not bad, not great team that MSU should beat at home) that frustrated MSU fans. Rumor has it the money people in Springfield aren't enamored of Hinson, despite his folksy media-popular ways.

Not saying he's getting clipped, but then again, it wouldn't surprise me if he did.

Suggested first-round matchup for NIT bracketbuilders: Hofstra at Wichita State in the Mid-Major WTF Classic.

To be placed at an 11 seed in nearly every bracket (some higher, some lower) and saying they're not a near-lock is semi-ridiculous to me. If they weren't a near-lock, wouldn't they either be a lower seed, or be left out of more than one of those brackets? Mr. Bracket was the only place they were left off last night when I checked.

    If you're a projected double-digit seed, you're not a lock.

Also, for once, it seems the men are selling out Hammons while the women are struggling. I don't think they'd be selling out if the community was TOO upset with Hinson. The school loves him, too, as he seems to do a lot for the other athletic programs. When Missouri State was hosting the MVC Baseball tournament in 2004, Hinson almost burned down his home making bbq for the teams, press, employees, and school officials. It's my understanding that he does that for the team games, too, once the basketball season is over.

And when you consider Bradley's "signature" win is against Southern Illinois, the same team it lost to twice this season, it lends more weight to SMS getting the nod.

I'm hopeful for the Braves, but most on campus have accepted and embraced an NIT bid.

Lowery feels that his team is a 6 at best. Creighton will be between a 7 and a 10 due to their 22-10 record.

There is a very real chance the Horizon is a two-team league. Wright State is hosting the title game, and beat Butler the last time the two teams met. Also, Butler has honked its two previous Horizon finals.

That is surprising to read that about Hinson. For a long time before she went to Michigan, Cheryl Burnett, Jackie Stiles, and the women were the big show in the Hammons Center along with Spoonhour and Spoonball. Since Abrahamson-Henderson came in, they have been somewhat inconsistent but still competitive. Hinson was on the hot seat at one point in his tenure after Alford bolted up here to Iowa City, but he has done a great job.

No way should Duke get a No. 4 seed. But that may just be the UNC fan in me coming out.
