I have done the nick the ear thing. The surprising thing is that I haven't done it more often with the radar dishes mounted to the sides of my head. It is a bitch to stop bleeding.

Finally took the plunge and used a double-edged safety razor (1953 Gillette) Only one nick using it this past week. Bought a sampler pack of blades, as some blades work better than others. Use a Prorasso soap and aftershave.

Thinking of getting some beard soap ... someone mentioned Honest Amish. Is that brand significantly better than the others or is it more of a personal preference thing?

As I posted earlier, I'm a huge fan of Maestro's beard wash and beard butter combo. Can be found at Target. About a four-month supply of both can be had for around $25.

Picked up a sweet Phillips/Norelco beard trimmer with 20 settings yesterday and love it. Mine had been getting really out of control on the sides, so the different settings allowed me to use the shorter settings to work on the sides while fading in and keeping the middle/chin area of good length. Looks sharp and sculpted now rather than unkempt and scruffy.

I'm phasing out my old bear trimmer.
I used to use the same piece for scalp and beard.
But I bought a bad ass Oster clipper that I'm using for scalp now. I'm going to get a #1 for it so I can use on beard as well.

I gotta keep my sh#t tight.

Bear trimmer? You're one brave dude. Watch out for the claws.

I'm not brave enough to trim my own hair. I'd do something immensely stupid and have a wonderful gash along the scalp. Trust me, I'd do it.

Shaving non-beard areas with a straight razor ... I'm starting to consider it. Still nowhere near ready to make the plunge.

I don't get my ear, but damn, nicking the lip? Blood never stops. So much blood flow in the lips, its nearly impossible. Pressure helps but inevitably I end up showing my face with remnants of toilet paper on my lip.

I gave up on shaving years ago. Skin is way too sensitive. Rash, redness, burning sensation. Every single time.

I tried changing out razors, cream, gel, pre-balm, post-balm, nothing helped.

I got a beard trimmer and now live in a perpetual state of three-day stubble. My skin feels great, which is a great trade off for looking like a bum.

I first tried this a couple days ago after reading this. Had no idea. Worked like a charm. Just saved me hundreds of dollars in the future. Thank you.
