Maybe in some places. I don't think that's the case here, or at least I hope it's not.

I found out in second grade when a kid who had an older brother declared it as fact to the whole class. I asked my mom about it that night and she immediately fessed up to it. She was in the process of leaving my dad (smart move) and I don't think she had any energy to come up with an excuse or a comeback.

We've deflected it twice. My 6-year-old came home and said that the class bully had said there was no Santa and I was quick with, "Well, we all know how much trouble he gets in, he probably thinks that because he doesn't get any presents." My 7-year-old was sitting there nodding... I'm hoping we get a few more years out of it.

So you're saying I may not have scored a 128, after all?

I added mine up. Unfortunately, it was correct.

As weird as it may be I came to answer pancakes because of the old meme that was posted on here many times:

The rabbit with a pancake on its head.

My oldest is 10 and still believes (for now). That's why I went with 11 as my pick, because I think he's kind of figured it out, but still wants to believe for my youngest (who is 7).

Something's always bothered me about that picture: There are two pancakes there.

We don't do Christmas, but have gone through similar issues with the tooth fairy. Once, I got a call already on the road from my wife that we had forgotten to put the money under her pillow. I told he to put my daughter on not knowing what I was going to say. I managed to explain that it was really our fault, because we forgot to turn off the house alarm so the TF couldn't come in. She bought that & I thought that was the end. That night at story time, she reminds me to shut the alarm. When I assure her that I'll remember, she asks if robbers are going to come. Of course not, I said. The door is locked. Then how will the Tooth Fairy get in? I said something about special fairy powers & changed the subject. Later that night my wife & I wondered why we put so much effort into lying to our children.

Everyone in my second grade class knew Santa was fiction, but many of my classmates lied to their parents because they were convinced it got them more presents. I remember those conversations about suckering parents deep into elementary school.

As someone with a 6-year old, my guess is those parents weren't suckered. They probably just played along.
