I must have missed a lot because all I ever see here when a member passes away are posts about how much the passed-away poster will be missed, how good of a person he or she was. I still have no idea which dearly departed poster we're talking about, although the one who passed away most recently comes to mind. All I ever read about him were good things.

Yeah, don't want those pesky LONG-FORM writers clogging up a journalism site. :( For me, that was the period when this site was at its worst. Used to be a lot of great discussion, and I learned plenty from people who knew their shit. The discussions of the biz these days are basically ripping King or debating plagiarists. There's so many people here who have left the biz, but we also have run off our share.

And then there's the Poin. Ah, the Poin. I do love it so.

Wow. I learned quite a few things today:
    1) RIP. He and I talked the losses of our dogs a few years back. It was helpful to mourn together.
    2) I've been on this message board since I started over in my newspaper career. Wow...going on about eight years now. Damn!
    3) I miss IJAG on here.

Expounding on 2. I gotta say that some people on here have been helpful in shaping how I have grown, being a do-it-all-yourself twice-weekly SE to daily beat writer/ASE to the multiple things I do now along with my "real" job. Have things changed? Sure. But oh well. I guess I can be the last one turning off the light. I don't see a need to bolt.

I chalk that up to so many leaving journalism and getting corporate gigs. I don't post (or surf) here from 8-5 now. Back in the old days, I was a regular on the dayside crew.

It's sort of a skewed outlook on Boom since the people still here could stomach him to some degree. I think the people who walked away because of him might have a different opinion.

Boom was either trolling big-name writers just to be trolling, or was commenting on the worship many of said writers received here. I really don't know which; there was a lot of "crazy like a fox" about him. That MacGregor, as nice a guy as there is in journalism, was in Boom's crosshairs is especially unfortunate. That trolling probably chased some people away. But bigger catalysts to departures were two things: Boom and BigDog stalking and bullying Good Doctor's wife, and Friend of a Friend battling Lucas and taking his friends and going to a new home.

Or you put him on ignore, steered clear of threads he was in and hoped he wouldn't mess up ones you were already in.

Boom's act made ass-kissing very difficult.
