Shirt in or out? Men?

I tend to go with my shirts tucked in. Anything else just seems slovenly to me.

Then again, I'm just old enough to not give a flying fuck about fashion.

    If it's a button-down, it's tucked in. Always.

If it's a polo, I usually wear it out.

See, I wear mine in precisely because of my gut. Wear it out, and it looks like a damn tent.

Is it considered unprofessional to go untucked?

I always wear my polos untucked away from work. I'm still not sure if I can get away with that at my new gig. I wear polos and khakis every day. I've been tucking, because everyone else does, but I think I can get away with not tucking.

GQ had a coverline a few months back that said if you wear it untucked, it looks like you're trying to hide being fat even if you aren't. I didn't read the story, though, because I'd sworn off GQ for a while, I just thought the mag really started to suck. I'm off that wagon, however. I bought the October 50th anniversary issue, the one that's fat as a phone book, and thought they did a great job. But I digress.

I don't know. I was tucked in my teens, tucked in my 20s, I'm just not gonna go untucked in my 40s, just don't see the point to wearing a shirt like it's a jacket of some sort, just don't see the appeal of a 30-year-old trying to look like he's 16. A big part of the appeal of dressing the way I do -- traditional American, preppie, 1950s Ivy League, whatever -- is that it never changes, so I never have to pay any attention to when fashion dictates whether it is or isn't "in" to tuck in a shirt (and someday I suppose it will become unfashionable to be untucked). I still have and wear clothing that I bought in my 20s -- the style in that genre never changes. So I don't really have to think about it. The t-shirt is tucked even at the beach. I like clothes, but I hate fashion.

    Jerry likes a tuck.
    George - no-tuck.

I don't even wear a belt. My waist is unnecessarily skinny. Therefore, a shirt tucked in would just look ridiculous.

    Wish I had that issue.

At this new job I dress nicely (first time ever had to do that).

Any other time, shirt UNTUCKED always.
