I don't think there's anyone higher than Fannin in K.C. now.
Regardless, a lot of papers are losing preps writers. Just seems fucked up considering how they stress local content that the readers want.

Damn. Damn Damn. Mechelle was really, really cool to me when I was coming up. Now the two people people from the Star who had the greatest impact on my early career have both been laid off. In retrospect, maybe the best thing they could have done is treat me like shit so I got on a different career track.

She always seemed to really care about what she did, the stories she covered, and she did so in a very professional way.

I don't know Mechelle, never met her, but we have some mutual friends. And I have never heard an unkind word spoken of her.

    My best to her.

Are the KC moves layoffs or buyouts?

Doesn't Voepel also write for ESPN? Could it be her getting out of the way to save someone else's job?

"Right now" would be defined, at this point, as stretching back about three years and extending forward for the foreseeable future. And beyond.

    Sptwri,

Thanks for the insight and information.

I, however, don't believe that such a thing is an "involuntary buyout" exists.

You get a buyout if you choose to take it. You are laid off and given severance if this is forced upon you.

Involunary buyout is a term made up by HR people who don't want to say layoffs or fired.

The 1HP editor going to ESPN most definitely is not the f-up. She is fantastic. Heard every veteran sports reporter received buyout info. Deadline to decide is Sept. 26.
