Based on the measuring tool on Google Maps, it's about 1,200 feet from the hotel to the middle of the venue. A 400-yard shot is nothing with today's rifles.

Distance I've seen reported is 400 yards from shooter's nest to crowd.

Just like the Founding Fathers envisioned.

Best as I can tell they don't have balconies at Mandalay Bay. I guess the shooter just blasted a hole through the window in his room?

I say this as someone who is fairly ignorant of guns in general, but watching that video it sure sounded like at least one fully automatic weapon was used.

Yep. Because the buildings are all so huge, you think your destination is just a couple minutes away. Then 15 minutes later, you're still walking.

It doesn't take much in the way of machining expertise to make a semi-automatic a fully automatic ...

Do any Vegas hotels have balconies? Seriously, the threat of people jumping to their death after they've lost life savings has to be greater there than any other place in the world.

Was wondering about that myself. Didn't realize you could open the windows in high rise hotels anymore.

When I was there in May I noticed a lot of the "residence" places that have popped up on the strip have balconies. Odd sight -- 20-somethings on their cell phones taking selfies -- to be sure. But the main hotels (e.g., Mandalay Bay) don't have them.

Did you listen to the video? That's an automatic. Also saw that he used .223 caliber ammo. Civilians should not be able to have that shit. The fact that you can kill 50 people from 400 yards away—those instruments should not be in civilian hands. It's so fucking dumb.
