The only time I ever shot a gun, it was some old-ass .22 at my buddy's family's cabin in bumfuck southside Virginia. We were rip-roaring drunk, of course, because that's what 19-year-old kids do in those situations, and the most excitable of my friends took his turn and then just started cracking up laughing at the feeling of shooting a gun, then swung around, still holding the gun up, to face us and tell us about it. Great dude, but still the most terrifying moment of my life.

My brother and his wife just bought a house in a working-class Chicago neighborhood. He wouldn't own a BB gun if you gave it to him.

Now I have an uncle who lives alone in a trailer park in suburban Dallas who showed me his handgun. That makes some sense to me. That said, he's a functional alcoholic and probably more likely to shoot himself or some innocent than an intruder. But I understand it, on sheer principle.

The NRA is an extremist organization and Democratic politicians and leftist and independent activists need to begin a campaign calling for nothing less than full repeal of the Second Amendment in response to the NRA's expansive interpretation of it.

 

You have to fill out ATF Form PS12, which attests to your having pinky swore that you won't use it to facilitate a mass shooting. Pretty damn intrusive regulation, if you ask me.

 

That's exactly what will drive more people to join the NRA and fill its coffers.
