Yeah, but guns make it easy. If you had knives, no way are you taking out a class.

If you decided to use poison or make a bomb or something, that takes a certain kind of mindset, no someone who just pops and goes on a killing spree.

Look at every school mass killing. All with guns. No one put plastic explosive in the Coke machine or rat poison in the beans.

    I'm going to repeat this:

We have people here who were touched by this tragedy (either directly or indirectly, either professionally or personally, or both). One of them wants me to dump some of you off this thread. Let's make sure it doesn't turn into another place to argue and continue long-running feuds. I understand there will be second-guessing about the way the administration handled this, and other issues will be debated, but let's stay professional and humane and respectful about how we discuss this. Please.

News is still being gathered. Families are still learning of their losses. Others don't know if their loved ones are OK. Others might be out of pocket and unaware. Some of them are our SportsJournalists.com friends. Don't lose sight of that.

    Thank you.

Well, no civilian did have a gun today. Only one lunatic, who was already violating the law that banned weapons on campus.

You'll notice a trend that law-abiding people tend to follow gun laws, while lunatics and criminals tend to ignore them.

A lot of civilians died today waiting for the police to protect them.

Now I've never owned or touched a gun in my life, and don't plan to, but I think you're drawing the wrong conclusions from this tragedy.

It's not a revolver. It has a magazine, likely anywhere from 12 to 18 rounds.

HP do you really think eliminating guns serves everyone's interest and addresses your problem?

We have more people who have committed acts with guns OUT of prison than in. MENTAL hospitals let more kooks out than IN.

Let's zero in on the trouble rather than the tool.

According to the report I just heard, there was one gunman, an Asian male. That photo of the Asian male being subdued that ran on the wire was NOT of another gunman, but of an Asian reporter who happened to be running in the wrong direction at the wrong time.
In all of these stories, what I hate the most is the two hours where everybody knows everything and nobody knows anything, Makes covering them a real bear. I know exactly what the reporter was going through.

JD, unfortunately you can repeat it all day, but some will not get the message. Maybe because they've been touched by this and are venting on here, or maybe because they just enjoy throwing fuel on the fire.

All the rest of us can do is shake our heads.

Yep, that's what we need to do - create a black market for guns by not allowing law abiding citizens to own them.

Sorry, but seeing as the insane war on drugs has turned our city streets into the O-K Corrall and filled our jails with a whole lot of people whose only crime is smoking some weed, I have no desire to live in world where they only people who are armed are criminals.

I just think guns should be harder to buy, and that you should have to prove why you need one.

It’s a tough argument, and maybe not a practical one, but I think it’s a fight the government needs to start.

So should a responsible 1,000 be punished? Can we not take an honest look at the social work industry in this country as well as the handling of gun crimes in the first place? Eye for an eye has lots of merit people. And it should have no doubt given a second offense, but we even excuse that.

Are any of the news reports talking about this being some kind of jihad thing or that the shooter was a Muslim? There was an illusion to this on the Pittsburgh radio station I'm listening to.

There's so much info coming so quickly that I'm having a hard time digesting it all......it's just so terrible.
