Sad it takes something like this to put life in perspective.

Thoughts with the families, espcially those in the SportsJournalists.com family.

I've started a thread on the Journalism board about the coverage for anyone who wants to talk about it in a more civil context and doesn't want to wade through unwanted fallout.

I stepped out to grab lunch. Just before I did, I wondered when the gun debate would derail this thread. I never imagined somebody would be calling the NRA a terrorist organization.

KC, since I am a member of the NRA does that mean I'm a terrorist?

So you don’t think requiring ridiculous amounts of certification and psychological screening, combined with ridiculous penalties and jail time for those who own one without a permit, would help?

I’m curious. No judgment either way. Maybe I’m wrong.

Shocking that Yawn is more reasonable than the scary newbie.

Death toll up to 31. Absolutely awful.

Death toll now at 31, according AP via government officials.

I bet they'll fare better than the Muslims would have. Every Muslim in town would have been in danger had the guy been a Muslim. I don't think there's as much predisposed hate for the Asian community.

    Sure, toughen requirements.

Anyone with a gun crime on their hands should not get a gun. I think that's law.

But does it keep them from getting one?
Would it keep a psycho from getting one?

I've been busy this morning and am just getting up to speed with this shooting. I've worked back two pages and have come to the conclusion that many on this thread should be ashamed of themselves -- pro or con NRA...
I thought this thread was on the shooting, the survivors and the dead; the shooter and his reasoning; action, inaction and reaction.
Instead I find a childish debate -- kcsportscaster, I agree with your perspctive but am looking at you among others. Fuck this. Outta this thread. back to doing something else but reading this for a while.
And boots, I know you mean well, but the personna you've created around here... it leaves me think of an old adage: if you yelled fire, my first instinct is not to leave the room, but -- even if you're right -- yell 'shut up.' Less is more, dude.
    Maybe I'll check in later.
    God rest their souls.

That part of Virginia isn't the most enlightened corner of this country. I think the fallout will be plenty bad for Asian students there. Not so much from fellow students but from the hillbillies in the area.
