I read, can't remember where, that two of the girls went to the same high school as the shooter. I don't remember if it mentioned if they were in the same graduating class.

I thought I read somewhere they would have been freshmen when he was a senior.

Can't remember where I saw that though.

One of my little cousins is a freshman engineering major at VTech. He was in class the next building over during the second shooting. He was asleep in his dorm during the first shooting and had no idea it had happened. He could have been one of the victims. This is so fucking awful. I hate guns. Any unintentional fault anyone in the VTPD or administration had in this is so far behind the real issue, in my opinion, which is how a psychotic person legally bought two weapons.

I didn't want to post about my cousin being there — we knew he wasn't hurt the whole time — but I guess that's further proof of how small a world it is, and how you never know who gets touched by what event. I would feel the same about guns if he was or wasn't there, though.

Had Va Tech not canceled classes, one of my friends might have been in the building where the shootings took place.

I think someone posted the link earlier, but, damn, this crimeblog.us has done a wonderful job compiling all the victims and giving them a story. That's of what the Internet is meant to be, I think.

This Friday is being called Hokie Hope: Orange and Maroon Effect. To show support, everyone is being asked to wear the school's orange and maroon colors that day.

Westfield's a pretty big school. Might be a coincidence. Might not be.

I don't think that's so unusual at all. Tech is the state's largest university in terms of students, more so than UVA, and there's a tremendous presence from this area down there. Two of the victims were Westfield grads, but I'd be amazed if that wasn't just a coincidence.

Heck, almost a year ago a recent Westfield grad shot and killed two police officers before he was shot himself. Considering the school is in one of the most affluent, suburban districts in the country, I think it's just a thing of people just snap and can't handle things the way they should.

I don't think I own any orange, but I'll certainly be decked out in maroon tomorrow.
