I can't honestly say if Dubow was a god CEO at Gannett or not. I just don't know enough.

But, as Sully Sullenberger proved, it's most important to have the right person in the Captains seat when things are going wrong.

In another "real world" example, back when I was trading commodities, the firm I cleared through had a trader blow out. He had a big, losing position in the coffee market.

Now, they could have just unwound the position at a huge loss. Instead, they had one of their traders slowly, and carefully unwind it. He ended up nearly breaking even.

Now, I suppose you might say he just "did what he was asked to do", but it takes some talent to do it.

Maybe Dubow sucked. But, to think a random name out of the phone book could have done just as well is silly.

If I'm a farmer and I clear some debt off the books by selling off my seed corn, what have I accomplished?

This is what commodities markets are for.

    They're not just for "speculators".

In Koch/ALEC land, the only overpaid Americans are those in the public sector.

If we're talking about JFK or Clinton, the question would be whether the president should have a Swiss miss.

Obama and Co. should just keep repeating the words, "Bain Capital" every single day.

Those words are toxic for Romney.

Well, if it resonates with you, then obviously it must be gold.
