SI: A-Rod to become a free agent

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by jakewriter82, Oct 28, 2007.

  1. You don't have to be a Yankees fan to know that Gammons is a Red Sox fan. I don't think he would have gotten on his soapbox like that if A-Rod was playing for another team, no.

He would have, because he's the highest paid player in the game, and while everyone else is holding off on any hirings or firings, he and his agent saying "look at me" and trying to grab the spotlight.

Exactly. And how does this fit into Gammons as a Red Sox fan. Nobody is more pissed at Rodriguez and Boras right now than the Yankee lovers, inside the organization and out. They are slamming him both guys today.

Sorry, bullshit theory in your desperate attempt to bash one of the best people in the business.

Bullshit. He would have dogged anybody at any time for deflecting attention away from the World Series-clincher. I'll guarantee that Gammons is a baseball purist first and a Red Sox fan second, just like most of us with our favorite teams. Serious journalists -- especially those with 40-plus years' experience under their belts -- know the ethical line between the job and the hobby. Gammons knows it. He's as professional, if not more, than anyone else in the baseball-writing business, and he's in the Hall of Fame in part for that.

This was a bullshit move on Boras' part, and I'd say that if it were the Pirates and Royals in the World Series. (Hi, Oz!)

C'mon. Anyone saying that Gammons' comments were solely predicated on the Sox' involvement in this is absolutely f..king clueless. Clueless.

Glenn Ordway was on WEEI earlier all but giving A-Rod/Boras a reach-around on the news breaking last night. Personally, it's not a super big deal to me, but there's no need to be bending over and lauding them for the move, either.

Now that MLB has come out and smacked Boras for the timing of his announcement, I think somone on here owes Mr. Gammons an apology as well.

    I won't, but still.

I'm all for over-the-top rhetoric, but that was a little absurd.

I can't see that happening. Not someone drenched in Yankees misery.

  10. I'm sorry, Pete.

Edit: Before I get crucified for this, it's all in fun. Gammons is a Red Sox homer, always has been. But I do apologize for the personal attacks.

The announcement never should have happened on Sunday night. If the Tigers won the WS last night, Gammons would not have been as pissed off about the announcement. He was pissed because his beloved Red Sox were being upstaged.

How nice that all these clairvoyant people are able to discern the inner workings of Peter Gammons' thought processes. Must be fun to be psychic.

BTW, I know that Gammons is an immense Sox homer, but you don't have to be a Chowds fan to find Boras' bullshit to be annoying.
