That was the first thing I thought of when Boras name was uttered by Rosenthal, making everyone talk about A-Rod and not talking about how the Sawx steamrolled the Rockies.

Only Scott Boras can pull this type of shit off.

Congratulations for graduating to Motherfucker status, Scott. Why you don't shoot for the cocksucker level while you're at it?

At some point though, how much money does A-Rod really need? So he signs somewhere for 190 million instead. He was obviously miserable in NY. His marriage seemed to be constantly in the spotlight. Maybe he just wanted out regardless of what it cost him. Maybe he was sick of being blamed for the Yankees terrible postseason failings (although he had, obviously, a lot to do with it). Maybe he was sick of getting booed in the regular season by ungrateful fans when he was busy carrying a flawed group of prima donnas on his back because of shitty, shitty pitching.

So this costs him $30 million (and in the end maybe it won't). So what? Maybe it's exactly what he needs.

You know, there's one hell of a book to be written about ARod's run with the Yankees and the end of Torre's tenure as manager.

All I can say is thank God the Red Sox didn't land A-Rod back in the winter of '03. They'd still be waiting for that first title. Let the Cubs have him

if a-rod was simply motivated to get out of n.y., fine. ut you know boras doesn't give a darn about whether his player is happy. he's only about the money. we'll see what boras gets for a-rod. it'll be a bundle, obviously, just not as much as the yanks were prepared to give him, imo.

Is this just a way to move the Yankees off their first offer? Which (according to the NYDN) was based on his average salary for the last several years, rather than the +/- $30 million salary of his final season.

    Probably will backfire, IMO.

The Yankees have said they will not be involved in the bidding if A-Rod opts out (primarily because of the $30 mill they won't get from Texas).

True. But I'm not sure that wasn't the Yankees taking the early hard line on the negotiation - which may in fact be why Boras chose to respond as he did.

Here's the thing, jg... the Yanks owed him $81 mill over the next 3 years, $30 of which would be paid by Texas. They supposedly were willing to offer $28-30 mill a year for 5 more this week. So A-Rod would end up with 8 years fors $220-230 mill, with the Yanks on the hook for $200 mill or a little less.
So if Boras wants an AVERAGE of $30 mill or more per for 8 years (or more) it costs the Yanks at least $40-45 million more after the opt out

In other words, the Yankees are trying to be the beacon of fiscal responsibility?
