No, they just don't want to spend an extra $40 mill for a guy they'd have under contract for 3 more years if his agent weren't such a greedy fucking slimeball.

Oh, don't get me wrong, spn, I'm not saying it makes sense - from either side. But maybe Boras had a feeling that the Yankees would go higher, but were lowballing him.

There's part of me that thinks a $30 or $40 million dollar savings doesn't mean much to the Yankees, either, in light of their history, and given the fact that they're opening in a new stadium in a couple of years.

Either way, I'd hate to see him go. He's good copy and a great ballplayer - except in the playoffs.

Man, Uncle Bud had to be seriously pissed when Fox broke into game coverage for Rosenthal's report.

Please tell me this backfires on Scott Boras. Couldn't happen to a bigger slimebucket ...

Brian Cashman won't touch this the moment A-Rod opts out, which will hurt Boras no matter how much he tries to spin. I could see the Mets except that A-Rod hasn't taken too well to media pressure.

Will the Angels or Dodgers ante up? San Fran, now that they're not paying Barry Bonds?

It doesn't matter. I just hope these idiot owners learned from Tom Hicks' mistake. If they didn't, I DON'T EVER WANT TO HEAR ANOTHER SORRY BASTARD OWNER bark about their financial affairs. EVER.

Doesn't anyone remember the Mets dropping out the last time? The souvenir tent and the small circus outside the stadium that Fred Wilpon didn't want?

Scathing column by Olney. Strong ending.

It didn't since Theo has a penchant for way overpaying for mid-level free agents. See Renteria and Lugo for other examples.

(Is it too early to whine about the GM yet? They only won the World Series three hours ago. :D)

  9. I'd say it's arguable that he makes up for those blunders with excellent prospect handling (Craig Hansen notwithstanding), as well as the half-lucky moves like lowell and okajima.

Lowell was a full-on lucky move. He was a salary dump as part of the Beckett move. That the Sox got anything at all out of him, let alone a World Series MVP performance, is absolute gravy.

Definitely agreed, KOBM, and the way they've allowed Delcarmen to grow into his role is pretty sweet.

And Buck, I'm going to use one of your favorite words here. Fuck you. :D
