Which would now be known as "Commit Felonious Assault Day," presented by State Farm!

Walking out of bat day at Riverfront in 1987, turned the corner about two blocks from the stadium (very late at night, we stayed to try to get Eric Davis' autograph...SUCCESS ON THAT FRONT) and saw about 15 kids in some kind of gang fight using bat day bats. Got the F*CK outta there.

Cool quiz, thanks for the link. I got 12 of 15...missed on an Upper Deck as well as two Topps sets, one before I was born and one a couple years after.

Most journalists I know played Strat-O-Matic, and kept stats. BTW, the basketball and football games were pretty good, too. I loved the basketball game, had the 1982-83 teams. Used the Cavs and, for some reason, World B. Free led the NBA in scoring in my season. But the Celtics were unbeatable, followed by the Bucks. I think I know so much about early 80's basketball because of Strat-O-Matic.

And then Eric broke up the fight by throwing firecrackers into the crowd? (Mildly mixing things up there, I think Davis "only" drove the getaway car for Vince Coleman in '93)

Geez, 15 for 15 on the quiz. I'm such a loser.

A nice diversion for when I got tired of my Brian Fisher and Bo Diaz cards:

And lacerated his kidney in the process. Marge Schott refused to pay his medical bills.

No, Marge made Kal Daniels do that. One thing I did love about the 80's Donruss sets, they listed the players full names on the back. Kalvoski Daniels, Eric Keith Davis, Bo LeBeau Diaz, etc. The guy that ended up being the best man in my wedding and I would insist each other, when talking about baseball, use full names.

It was always my thinking that the small bats they started giving out were more effective to beat the crap out of someone.

I do miss thinking that every team in the league actually aimed to contend every year. Man - reading the SI previews of the Pirates, the Royals, and the Padres is really so futile. Especially when you read "what scouts say" comments like "this team has no chance, they don't have a legit number 1 or number 2 starter," or "the good thing is the offense won't feel pressure to score runs because they're not going to lose a lot of 1-0 or 2-0 games" or "why is this team paying $8 million a year for a relief pitcher who might be in a position to save 20 games max?"
