The fact your mother didn't stuff you in a potato sack, tie it to a cinder block and throw you off a bridge is one of the great mysteries of modern times.

In the late 60's and early 70's Rose would cut his arm off for a win. Ask Ray Fosse. I loved the cards on the bottom of the Hostess boxes. I also miss when Topps was the only company that made baseball cards. Now there are like 50 different 2009 baseball card sets. I also miss sitting upstairs in my room playing Strat-o-Matic baseball, solitare-style. I still have some of the scorebooks from my strat-o-matic seasons in the late 1970's. Pure gold.

  3. BYH's mother is hondo? That explains a lot.

Speaking of Ray Fosse, I wonder if he ever asked Pete Rose how much he bet on the 70 all-star game.

That's fine. But if you think Pete cared more about winning than money, you haven't paid much attention the last 24 years.

Obviously, I was exaggerating to make point.
But look at who's up front right now:

    New York/Boston
    Detroit/Chicago
    LA/Dallas

    Philadelphia
    St. Louis/Chicago
    LA

It's no coincidence the teams making all the money from local TV/radio dominate this sport.
Expecting owners in Pittsburgh and KC to deficit spend while these other teams are spending their (much greater) revenues is silly talk.

    They're still around. It's pronounced EECH-ee-ro. And JEE-ter.

Also: Juan Pierre, who has four more 200-hit seasons than Ted Williams ever did, believe it or not.

And what are Pujols and Vlad Guerrero if not "pure hitters"? Career averages of .334 and .322, respectively.

Pujols is a roided up freak so I wouldn't call him a pure anything.
