OK Pittsburgh and KC suck ass and their owners don't give a f-ck about winning. And if you think they are losing money, keep hitting the pipe. When is the last time the Dodgers won the World Series or were in it. That's the 2nd smallest market in the nation. There has been only one team that won the World Series twice this decade.

Although the White Sox won it all a few years ago Minnesota has been the best team in that division the last 5 plus years.

Not to mention the fact that the TV deals Texas, St. Louis and Detroit have are nowhere near as lucrative at the Yankees' or the Red Sox'.

Hell, Philly and the White Sox probably aren't close either.

I'd guess that the Rangers' deal is closer to Kansas City's than it is to Boston's.

Again, if you're not going to spend to win, don't buy a team.

Funny how a lot of otherwise free-market people turn Marxist when it comes to baseball.

I'd not only agree with that but would bet the total attendance of hs football in Texas is a lot higher than the Rangers season attendance.

It definitely is a lot easier to win with the Yankees' money of the Red Sox' or Dodgers' money, but I won't shed a tear for the poor owners of the Royals or Pirates. If I was a fan of those teams I would not go to a game unless it was for a discounted price.

The Angels were in the series and won it in 2002.
Hasn't been that long for SoCal.
To recap (with media market ranking):

    2000: Yankees (1)
    2001: Diamondbacks (14)
    2002: Angels (2)
    2003: Marlins (17)
    2004: Red Sox (5)
    2005: White Sox (3)
    2006: Cardinals (21)
    2007: Red Sox (5)
    2008: Phillies (4)

    Average rank: 8.
Yep. Looks like a fair fight to me.
The "Marxist" allegation is more absurdity. Baseball teams are not truly separate businesses that can exist independent of each other; they need each other to thrive. Proctor & Gamble only needs Colgate Palmolive to exist so that P&G doesn't get charged with being a monopoly. Otherwise, having CP out of the way would mean selling more toothpaste. If the Yankees didn't have the Royals or the Mariners or whomever, they'd be playing intrasquad games.

Baseball Digest (yeah I know it's still around in some form, but...)

The Torco sign (and wondering what the fuck Torco was) on the roof across from Wrigley.

Bill Veeck and his wooden leg sitting in the bleachers.

    Things I miss:

Teams having one color uniform for home, and one for away. None of this third jersey crap with four different hats (like the Diamondbacks did a few years back)

Bob Sheppard on the PA mike (the recording for Jeter not withstanding).

    The 21-day DL.

NBC's Game of the Week as a special event.

American League umpires and National League umpires rather than having them mixed in.

Real doubleheaders, not the day-night ones. And as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, have some actually scheduled.
