She's probably still just nursing some injuries and didn't want to re-injure herself. Yet it's still funny to me.

 

If Donald Trump were a horse, what color would he be listed as? Chestnut?

 

It is kind of odd there isn't a single one of her holding a racket. But if she's comfortable with it, it doesn't bother me one way or the other.

 

Maybe the racquet should have gotten some votes.

I agree. I think it somewhat undermines what she did actually accomplish this year and why she is receiving the award.

 

People care deeply about women's tennis. The sport is wildly popular even without Serena.

 

Do I really have to answer that?

 

I'm thinking that the cover and the resulting inevitable debate may have had a little to do with the choice.

 

They could have had a good sociological story with Pharoah too, on why male horses are seen as studs and female horses are seen as sluts.

 

For all we know, AP was the pick. But maybe he was reticent to pose for a glamour shot and the fallback was Serena.
