    Almost seems like the momentum got going for Serena and it generally became accepted that, "If she wins the Slam, she's Sportsperson of the Year." When she lost, SI kind of shrugged it off and just went with it anyway.

    She's not as deserving of some of her male counterparts, but she's also the kind of athlete who gets people talking no matter what she does.

    If Secretariat didn't win in '73 (Jackie Stewart), no way was AP winning this year. And if you're going to award it to Evert (WHOOPS, fixed) after six slams in three years, don't you kind of have to after Serena wins eight in three? And 21 total?
