Peter Gabriel's Here Comes the Flood.

A simple version. Just him on piano

This version is from the original album. More instrumentation.

    Apologize if I double up...

Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain -- Kristofferson or Willie's cover.

Throw Your Arms Around Me -- PJ cover. (If you only click on one link, make it this one. Seriously.)

    Medicine Hat -- Son Volt

Back In The High Life Again -- Warren Zevon cover. Heartbreaking, but beautiful.

"Come Away With Me," Norah Jones. If she were singing it in front of me, my pupils would turn to pinwheels and I'd go wherever she wanted.

    Even Texas.

    One more I forgot earlier:
. Pretty simple tune, but it's just such a relaxing tune. Every time I hear it, I imagine shuffling along with someone on a warm summer night.

I feel like there ought to be more soul/hip-hop on here, so just off the top of my head, I'll throw in Memory Lane and One Love by Nas. Also, "Ain't Got No, I Got Life" by Nina Simone.

I notice Son Volt getting some mentions lately. I limited all my posts to songs I could find decent videos of on YouTube, and I couldn't find much from Trace, one of the greatest albums of all time. A couple songs that I really like off that album that get lost amid the love for Windfall and such are Too Early, Mystify Me and Ten Second News, which is especially haunting when they reference Times Beach on I-44. As a kid, I can remember driving by the faded sign and my parents telling me the story of the dioxin poisoning. I can't listen to that song without flashing back to sitting in the back seat of my dad's Pontiac Bonneville while we drove through Missouri.
