SIRIUS merging with XM Radio!

No, you cannot use them to my knowledge on planes in a "live" mode. I have a Sirius S50, which saves hours upon hours of content on the device allowing me to listen to it remotely. The new Stiletto is much better and allows you to listen to live radio portably, but I'm not ready to make that investment yet!

This from somebody who is an XM fanatic, but I can tell you why it took me a while to convince my wife it was worth getting.

She had an awfully hard time subscribing to the idea that we would pay a monthly fee for radio when we can get it for free over the airwaves.

No point in arguing the superior content on satellite; you'll be preaching to the choir. But I'm sure that basic concept sticks in the craw of quite a few potential customers.

Nice! Now I can listen to the NFL on the radio instead of sitting around and watching with friends!

wonder if monthly price rates will go up. hope not, but think they will .... if it gets approved.

    Agreed.

The terms of the merger appear to favor Sirius, though.

I have the iPod-in-car option as well, but Sirius introduces me to a lot of bands I normally would never hear of. I like lots of variety in my music.

And of course, it has ESPN Radio, which no local station picks up.

So if it does go through, whose equipment will work with the new setup? You've got to think that some of the "corporate synergy" crap means only one set of satellites up there.

  6. Good point, OTD.

Having said that, as long as my XM equipment works under the new arrangement, I can deal with the merger. If I gotta buy something new .... ho-boy.

I have XM but I've been recently considering canning the whole thing. I'll probably keep it for the baseball broadcasts, but I think the music stations royally suck (would it kill them to play more than two good songs in a row? I flip the satellite more than I do commercial) and I also think the sound quality is TERRIBLE. Will they ever make it sound better than how it does now, which is to say I believe the sound is being piped through a tin can?

I've found Sirius' music mix to be better than XM's.

And how are you connecting your receiver to your audio system? That's usually the problem.

I've never, ever had a problem with the sound quality, as long as I have a 3-bar connection.

Give me NFL, keep Stern and his half-billion contract.

Opie and Anthony - on Satellite first, first to have satellite/terrestrial shows at same time.

    Stern killed satellite radio!

    O&A Party RoX.

I too have never had an issue with the sound quality. As far as the music mix goes, if I keep it on my trusty stations (Boneyard, XMU, Ethel), I'm rarely disappointed. Too many DJ mix shows on the Rhyme for my taste, tho. Just play the old-school rap, please.

I have about 65 shares of Sirius stock and am hoping this will drive the price up. From what I've heard the merger has a chance because the FCC may see satellite radio as competing with terrestrial radio, IPODs, PSPs and everything else.Under the current setup, Sirius would have a slight majority of shares and control over XM.

I think Sirius and XM together would be a great product. You'd get all NFL and MLB broadcasts in one place, plus everything else. Not bad for the price of a CD a month (if it stays that way).
