When I switched from the FM modulator to direct line input in my car, the sound difference was amazing.

How much did that cost? Did you do it yourself?

No, I needed a new car stereo anyway because the factory one was crapping out. So I just went to Best Buy and bought a new one with an input jack. I can plug either my XM receiver (SkyFi2) or iPod into it. Cost me $109, I think, for the receiver/CD player. I think you can get the XM wired to the back of an existing stereo, too.

I have the cassette adaptor, and while it adds wires, I get good sound from the speakers that bother to work.

The cassette adapter is far better than the FM modulator, and I've used both. The direct input is best, but the cassette adapter isn't a bad way to go if it's an option.

Depends on the manufacturer, but most FM mods suck --- especially anything with a Belkin name on it. (I will say that the one in XACT's Visor for Sirius is very good --- it probably has a range of 100 feet, based on the way my coworkers' Visors can be picked up in my car. ;D )

Now that I think about it, "Belkin" and "suck" are probably synonyms.

If you have a little extra money, a visit to www.crutchfield.com will probably do wonders in terms of finding a better AUX/iPod input option.
