The ads on this thread crack me up.

Now we've got It's Just Lunch: Dating for Busy Professionals.

As a voice of experience: Dating off this site is a very very very very VERY hit or miss proposition.

    Advance with caution.

Of course, I'd also need to have a date first.

IJAG, I'm not trying to be a smart ass here (it just comes naturally), but isn't all dating a hit-or-miss proposition? Why is it especially hazardous if the people meet on SportsJournalists.com?

Because it's nearly guaranteed to be long distance. And dating someone long distance when you're both in such a tumultuous business makes it four times harder to find time to see each other.

BYH, what did you do to make IJAG so cynical?

    Got ya.

Long distance is a bitch, especially if it starts out that way. Mrs. OOP and I made it through about two years of long distance, but we were together in the same city for two years before that, so the foundation was there.

Still, all dating is a risk. Losing out because you chose not to put yourself out there when something interesting came along hurts every bit as bad as trying and failing. It has been a long time since I was out there in the dating world, but that's the one lesson I learned to well to ever forget, even if things did eventually work out for the best.

    Distance sucks.

    But it can be overcome.

But it only works if both people are willing.

My last relationship ended because my girlfriend moved two hours away. TWO HOURS! Not that long of a distance and every weekend either I drove there or she drove here. But from the beginning she always asked how we were going to make it work. She'd tell me it's never going to work.

Somehow we made it through two months of distance. But just two days after one of the best weekends we ever spent together, she decided she couldn't do it anymore. It'll be a year on Aug. 15 that she broke up with me. I'm still not over her and she won't talk to me.

Sounds like she didn't want to be with you in the first place... Sorry for the bad luck..

    Painful, but true, RHCP.

Two hours is nothing. I can't remember the last time I dated someone who lived in the same time zone as I do.

She was looking for an excuse. I know it's hard, but you've got to let go. It wasn't meant to be.
