I thought I was the only who did that. I spent like three hours one night going back through all the locked threads.

I wish there was a way you could search for locked threads. Usually entertaining.

I had a friend send me this and thought the dating/dating site crowd here would enjoy it.

That's amazing. It reminds me of a great song.

For those of you who read the Open Letters thread, you already know about this guy.

His name is Dave and he's younger than me, although I don't know how much younger. I met him after he gave me his phone number while working the graveyard shift at the McDonalds drive-thru (I wish I was making this up).

After two nights of texting him until all hours of the morning, I'm slightly apprehensive.

A-He's not very good at answering my questions. I've point-blank asked him twice how old he is and he's dodged both questions. I mean, hello, I'd like to know if he can order alcohol without use of a fake ID in the United States.
B-I'm not sure he understands this job we're all in. One of the days he was texting me was Wednesday, on which I had a furlough day. He asked if I had set days off every week and when I told him I worked seven days a week, he just didn't quite comprehend it. I basically told him my life isn't very conducive to a normal dating schedule but I'm not sure he gets that I literally work every night during normal hours.
C-I keep asking him other types of questions - what kind of movies/music/food do you like? - and he gives the most irritating VAGUE answers. He sort of answers it...but not really. To the food question, he said he eats grilled chicken salads, Ramen noodles and grilled cheese with tomato soup. Movies? Um...he asked if I had seen Twilight. Nuff said. Music? Rap. Ew.
D-He's already sort of referring to me as "his." Like, tonight, he texted me, "What cha doin me lady?" Um. Yeah. I'm not anyone's lady. Especially a guy who I don't even know his last name or his age. Plus, it's a huge pet peeve of mine.
E-The other night, he said we should hang out at his place. Uh...no. Not going to hang out with this guy that I don't know for the first time at his place by ourselves. I really don't want to be date raped. Not that I think he would but I'm not taking any chances.

I don't know. I was thinking about this the other night and there's a good chance that part of the reason I'm shying away is because the last relationship I was in ended so badly that the only way I made it through it was because I had good friends there with me and a good therapist to prescribe me drugs so I could eat and sleep and function. Even though I've lived here in Kentucky for 10 months, I'm still not completely in my comfort zone and I don't have those close friends that I did.

I'm scared. Relationships suck when you overthink them, which I am really good at.

  9. Wenders, you sound more than slightly apprehensive. That list doesn't sound like a very good list for a guy. Sounds like you have already made up your mind not to date him but you just haven't realized it yet.

I am thinking of giving up dating and just having a series of random, meaningless one-night stands. Seems to work for one of the guys I work with.

I refer to that period as the second half of my 20s.
