It's probably best you didn't read what I typed...

It's probably best everyone stop piling on slytiger, and for slytiger to just let it go. Let's not ruin a running thread and get it locked. This one has seemed popular enough.

Thanks for your cooperation. I'll be here all week. Try the veal. Or the all-you-can-eat-Red Lobster shrimp.

I would give you nothing less. :)

Nah, no worries. We're meeting at the restaurant, so I can always pull the 'something just came up for work via text from my boss' line. Because, amusingly, it happens that way sometimes.

Better than what I thought you were after your first couple posts on the board. :D

Flasher -- we love you. let it go. ;)

    Ragu -- thanks.

So, my married friend is fired.

Nice guy, showed up on time, nice looking (a 6 or a 7), dressed decently (polo shirt and dark jeans with "nice" sneakers). But smelling like cigarette smoke. Strike one.

Made small talk through the meal, made somewhat awkward by the fact that I'd forgotten to take off my green-and-yellow finger nail polish from Saturday's football game. Turns out he is a big Husky fan and wasn't real thrilled I am a Duck. (And they call the Oregon fans the cocky ones... snort). So when he was visibly appalled by my choice of school, we had strike two.

Continued small talk included his love of my job/employer (apparently the only thing my friend/her hubby told him about me). He's a friend of my married friend's husband. Eight years older than me (not an issue, IMHO). Works a 'normal' 9-6 M-F schedule as a computer programmer of some sort. Has a 4-year-old son.

    Strike three.

We finished our meal (split the tab) and said polite goodbyes. He asked if I'd like to go out again and I spared him the trouble (nicely!) of calling later for me to turn him down.

I don't get this. I'm probably more passionate about my sports teams than 95 percent of the population, but I NEVER drag that shit into my personal relationships. I'll take a Packers fan I connect with over a Bears fan that bores me any day. Hell, I'll even put up with a Cubs fan if there's a connection. :D

    Hahahaha. I mean, ...

It doesn't bother me, but perhaps the wounds were too fresh from Saturday's massacre.

They need to remember that you're a person, not a project. Matchmaking has to go beyond, "He likes sports, she likes sports! Perfect!"

If it's a Cubs fan, how could there possibly be a connection? 8)

Hell, they're patient and so used to putting up with heartache and disaster that they're willing to put up with decreased expectations if you pad your resúmé a little bit. Winner all the the way, near as I can see it.
