I agree. This ain't the "Attention women of SportsJournalists.com" thread. "All-purpose dating thread" means all-inclusive, dammit! ;D

Decided to check out my ex g/f's profile on Facebook tonight for giggles.

    She's engaged.

We broke up in Oct. 2008 and when I saw her randomly at a bar in December, she said she was still single. My buddy and I have decided that she's a quick worker.

That, or I'm a real-life version of Good Luck Chuck.

Hey, it happens like that sometimes.

I met a girl on September 6, 1995. We started dating on September 19, got engaged three weeks later and got married the following September 14. We welcomed our first child together nine months and five days after that. And we lasted together for almost 12 years.

Just because it happens quickly doesn't mean it's not real.

Yeah, my ex was engaged a month after we broke up.

Fans of sports teams I could not date: Canucks and Oilers.

And there's a moratorium on dating Leafs fans, too. Been there, done that.

Agreed. I just thought it would be interesting to mention.

That brings up the question...Which would suck more: Your ex getting engaged in such a short time following a break up (one month to a year) or switching teams?

Oh yeah well my ex was such a good rebounder they called her Charles Barkley. I'm pretty sure she was already dating someone when she broke up with me via text message.

I guess we can let you in on the secret now. That's not why we called her Charles Barkley.

It wasn't even a nickname. You were, in fact, dating Charles Barkley and didn't realize it.

  12. Patience is a virtue, or so I'm told. But being patient sucks. It sucks a lot. But is it worth it? Well, if it wasn't, then why would I be patient over the course of a couple months. Yeah, that all made sense in my head, just probably not to anyone else reading it.

I'm in a pretty good situation. After my ex broke up with me a few months ago, it was only about a month after the breakup of a short, but meaningful relationship, that I started hanging out with a friend of mine. I guess the first time we hung out was back in October. We were both bored one night and met at a low-key bar for a couple drinks. Of course, my couple drinks turned into 8 long island iced teas, which was just enough to get me to the point where I couldn't feel feelings anymore ;D

Angela is an english instructor at the local D-2 college in town. She teaches composition for the most part, but sometimes literature. We knew each other because she dated a guy for about six months who I used to meet weekly for a quiz game at a bar in town. She's 30, I'm 26 ... which is only a point of contention when I playfully tease her about her love of 80s music by telling her I was 6 when the 80s ended. We met at about 8 this first night, and talked about writing until about 11, which I didn't know you could do. At about 11 she put her hand on my arm and said a colleague of hers from the college was coming to join us at 11:30, but that she wished "he wasn't coming down anymore." He was cool, though. Fun guy ... but a typical writer type with a bit of a weird side, but cool nonetheless. Definitely enjoyed myself, and she really seemed to enjoy herself, too.

A couple weeks went by before we were able to get together again. We made plans to get together a couple times, but usually her work ended up preventing that - 8 a.m. classes along with plenty of crappy freshman composition papers to grade. And trust me, I know quite a bit about work getting in the way of personal relationships. The next time we were able to get together, it was for that weekly quiz game which she hadn't been to in a while. I actually bailed on my usual team to hang out with her. She happened to bring along a guy she had been introduced to and hadn't met until that night. He was cool. He's 40 with three kids. She told me later that he just wasn't her type. So whatever.

We've gotten the chance to hang out a couple times since, send e-mails or texts here or there, and things always seemed to be very well between us, good chemistry, similar interests, same retarded sense of humor. I've been telling myself all along that all I needed to do was be patient, just wait until the semester is over and we can spend some real time together. In fact, about two weeks ago, we went for drinks one night and as we were leaving, I asked her if when the semester was over and she had some more time if she'd like to get dinner or something. She said that she hoped we could get together before then. Good sign, it would seem.

Takes us to Monday when she invited me to join her and bunch of her colleagues for the weekly quiz game and a trip to the low-key bar after for some drinks. Again, it was a good time and I got all the signs that she's totally interested. We decided to set up a movie night for Tuesday because she has yet to see the Hangover and I have never seen Christmas Vacation. Once again, things got canceled because her work ran late. I understand. It's finals week and she's grading final papers while also doing student conferences. So I continue to be patient. But seriously, being patient sucks. I can't help but wonder if it's worth it even though I know it is. She's going to her parents' - which is only like an hour away - from Sunday through the 29th, which is her birthday. And she invited me to go out with her and her work friends, who are all really cool, Friday night when I get back into town from work. I fully plan on taking her up on the offer.

I don't know what all this is supposed to mean, or if there's even a question in there, I guess I just wanted to write it all out to see if it makes any sense. So, sorry if I bored you, but I kinda feel better ... I just don't know why.
