No. God fucking no. We are writers. We have standards for ourselves. Why settle for less in our mates?

And then ... I'll be cruising through profiles and thinking, 'ugh,' 'oh God no,' 'wait, way too hot for me,' 'psycho,' and then I'll finally find someone whose average looking, somewhat interesting, has a few things in common with me, I'll message him, and I totally get the cold shoulder.

I've even had a couple told me I was too forward, that I should just sit back, and wait for guys to contact me. :'(

Where are these women who send messages/replies? I would like to subscribe to that place's newsletter.

    As for this...

Because that shrinks the pool considerably, and with it increases the chances of loneliness. At least, it seems like it. Whatever.

Shouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to find someone with a level of intelligence and can express himself well.

Yeah, but I don't think poor spelling necessarily implies a lack of intelligence. I dated a guy once who was brilliant...and couldn't spell some things.

    That's why I hesitate.

I don't expect perfect grammar or spelling or punctuation. As long as I have the sense that someone is trying, that's what matters to me. But if they are just too lazy to be bothered to spell properly and whatnot, that's something I can't stand.

If I can take the time to self-edit and use spell check when writing a profile or a response, I expect the same from someone I'd be interested in dating.
