Re: SJ dating Nation, I could use some input.

Assuming you are talking about marijuana rather than crack, how do you know it's that important to him that he wouldn't avoid using it around you? I quit smoking pot in my twenties, but before I quit, I just didn't use it around a few women I dated who made it clear they didn't approve. And after I stopped smoking it, I dated a few women who did smoke it. If he likes you, he might respect your wishes for a ganja-free environment, he might not. If you really believe he's a "nice guy" and you like him otherwise, why write him off if it may turn out he's a casual user? If he considers marijuana a religious sacrament or a necessity on the order of food, he likely won't stop, but it may not be a big deal to him and he'll just have a couple beers instead.

On the other hand, if he also has tats and a nose ring, run! [/ducking]

    Frank,
If it's a morality issue for wenders, should it still be morally OK for her if he only does it when she's not looking?
    Just asking.

Obviously if it's a moral issue for her, she will ignore my advice. My experience was that some of the women I dated did not have a moral issue with it, they either had never tried it or had tried it and did not care for it and did not want to smell it on me or my car or my room. One occasionally used harder substances but disliked the effect of marijuana, same as I disliked her intoxicants of choice. I'm just pointing out that the fact the guy smokes pot does not necessarily mean he's addicted to it. It's hard to meet someone; might as well find out first. Also, she says she goes to bars ... I assume she doesn't restrict her acquaintances only to those who attend church ice cream socials.

I still can't watch this without cringing:

[/Nikki's machine picks up: Hi, this is Nikki. Leave a message]
Mike: Hi, uh, Nikki, this is Mike. I met you at the, um, at the Dresden tonight. I just called to say that I had a great time... and you should call me tomorrow, or in two days, whatever. Anyway, my number is 213-555-4679- [/the machine beeps]
Mike: [/Mike calls back, the machine picks up]
Mike: Hi, Nikki, this is Mike again. I just called cuz it sounded like your machine might've cut me off when I, before I finished leaving my number. Anyway, uh, and, y'know, and also, sorry to call so late, but you were still at the Dresden when I left so I knew I'd get your machine. Anyhow, uh, my number's 21- [/the machine beeps]
Mike: [/Mike calls back; the machine picks up again]
Mike: 213-555-4679. That's it. I just wanna leave my number. I didn't want you to think I was weird or desperate, or... we should just hang out and see where it goes cuz it's nice and, y'know, no expectations. Ok? Thanks a lot. Bye bye. [/hangs up]
Mike: [/Mike walks away from the phone... then walks back and calls again; once again, the machine picks up]
Mike: I just got out of a 6-year relationship, Ok? That should help explain why I'm acting so weird. I just wanted you to know that. It's not you, it's me. I'm sorry... This is Mike. [/hangs up]
Mike: [/Mike calls back, the machine picks up again]
Mike: Hi, Nikki, this is Mike. Could you just call me when you get in? I'm gonna be up for awhile and I'd just rather speak to you in person instead of trying to fit it all into - [/the machine beeps]
    Mike: Fuck!
[/Mike calls back, gets the machine again]
Mike: Uh, Nikki? Mike. It's uh, uh, it's just, uh, this just isn't working out. I think you're great, but maybe we should just take some time off from each other. It's not you, it's me. It's what I'm going through, alright? It's uh... it's only been 6 months ...
    Nikki: [/picks up] Mike?
Mike: [/very cheerful] Nikki? Great! Did you just walk in or were you listening all along?
Nikki: Don't ever call me again. [/hangs up]
Mike: Wow. I guess you're home.

Went to the beer festival, but arrived nine minutes too late. Some old man wearing short pants, suspenders and a feather in his hat would not let me and my buddies in. I also did not see Wenders in my limited time there.

I think she is over there, necking with the pothead in the opium den.

How the hell do you arrive at a beer festival too late?

No, I was covering Little League in the 95-degree weather and watching the team I was covering bite it for the second-straight day.

And the chances of ever catching me in a beer garden, when I hate beer, are slim to none.

Now...RE to the rest of you guys: it is partly a morality issue. I also have major upper-respiratory problems along the lines of allergies and asthma and while I can stand to be around marijuana smoke more than cigarette smoke, I'd really prefer to be around neither. And I caught wind from him and his friends he was with that he has been known to do harder substances than just pot. The indication I got from him was that he was more than just a casual user and a lot of people go to his house to smoke with him.

If it's the least bit of a morality issue, don't even consider it. Not worth compromising your values for.

If those are red flags for you, then there's someone out there who's better for you. Good luck. ;)
