Thanks, slappy! I like you ... is that OK? Would that be acceptable to the people who think they rule the board? Oh wait, I don't care. I like you anyway. ;)

I tore up my left knee playing middle-school co-ed school soccer. I am not sure how middle schools got co-ed soccer teams, but we did. We sucked.

We also had cuffs on our jerseys, and a wasp got caught up in my left sleeve and stung me three times. Or whatever kind of stinging motherfucker can sting multiple times. Between the knee (which now pops three times with every step I climb) and the pain of the stings, I gave up on sports.

The "B" in "B team" stood for "badass."

    Damn.

I can't believe I'm not even the most well-liked guy named Double Down on the board.

This is a serious blow to the ego.

Crap. I feel like Haylie Duff. Or Ozzie Conseco. Or, like, Solange Knowles.

Like, potentially, in the SportsJournalists.com bar, shouting over the drunken din and the jukebox, this conversation potentially took place:

SportsJournalists.com member No. 1: You know who is funny and interesting? That double down guy.

SportsJournalists.com member No. 2: Really? That guy who has really long, pretentious posts and likes The Wire?

SportsJournalists.com member No. 1: No, no! The guy who likes the Royals. And has a 68 at the end of his name.

SportsJournalists.com member No. 2: Oh totally. That guy is awesome. I'm totally voting for him. Glad you cleared that up. Seriously, I was worried about you for a second.

SportsJournalists.com member No. 1: No kidding. Wow. You were probably like, "What is he going to say next? I miss poloponies?"

    (Hilarious laughter.)

(DD in the corner, nursing his scotch): Sniff.

Actually, the "B" stands for "bitch slap" which is what I did to all of the mark-ass tricks in the Milwaukee west side parochial league with my 3.5 ppg.

    St. Sebs represent!

I honestly didn't mean to steal your thunder there with the name and all. My apologies.

No offense to 68, but I think you'd pass that Pepsi Challenge any day, DD.

Double Down(s), did the Barthelme book inspire the name? Been curious about this for a while, actually.

The voting seems to indicate a revival of the "think tank" vision of the board, with two renowned journos who posts by their real names being on the first team, and particularly by who's on the second team. Tho the sociable, "bar" vision is still well represented. In balance, maybe the force is.
