It's not in Esperanto, it's understandable and non-immflamatory.

Dude, I'm obviously the one potentially trying to steal your thunder! I'm the one who needs to apologize. Whatever my message is, clearly it's not resonating with the voters. I'm going to have to get with my advisors and come up with a new approach. I'm like the Bill Bradley to your Al Gore. Sure, I might get a little heat from the media now and then, but when the votes are counted, I'm packing it in well before Super Tuesday.

I'm thinking I need a feud in the new year, or a scandal, something to really thrust me into the limelight. Maybe my publicist can call in a few favors and I can sneak into the background of a sketch or something when Bubbler hosts SportsJournalists.comSNL. Or, like Katie Holmes, I can agree to a beard for a SportsJournalists.com female member trying to hide her lesbian relationship from the conservative SportsJournalists.com press. Hell, I'll even have a creepy scientologist baby if it gets me on the cover of US SportsJournalists.com Weekly. I've totally got some thetans inside me too that need clensing. This could work.

I wish it were up to that level. And DD, you and I should feud. Apparently, we both need the boost.

    Double D,

You don't need a scandal. You need a new handle.

How about doubledown69? Puts a dagger in your rival. Get titters from the SportsJournalists.com night crew.

You'd could start with newbie of the year in 2007 and shoot for poy in 2008.

I like it, Ace. Also has the not-so-subtle sexual inuendo factor going for it. People stare at it and wonder, "Does he mean he doubles down with the ladies in the 69 position?" and then shift to, "Now that he grabbed my attention with his raw, honest sexual braggadocio, perhaps I will pay closer attention to his thoughts on the dearth of female columnists at mid-size metros."

If that doesn't work, I may resort to Tobias Funke's tactic in Arrested Development, and drop by random threads using clever pseudonyms, posting stuff like, "That doubledown69, he sure is something!"

    There ya go kid.

But when you tout yourself with clever pseudonyms, be careful of the fatal "thanks for stopping by, doubledown69" response.

Too many of those will throw cold water all over your campaign.

You might try bribing real posters to shill for you.

"doubledown69 makes my sides split -- Ace"

For the record, I vote for Double Down every year.

Smart posts, shaky spelling, champion of finding lost/missing archived stories, and with a name like Double Down, we're probably related.

While I don't dare speak for my more popular namesake, I will reluctantly confess that my moniker was inspired by nothing that literary. It was simply an homage to Double Down Trent, from Swingers, one of my favorite films. That Barthelme book looks interesting though. Perhaps reading it, and stealing liberally from its tale of woe, would garner both sympathy and add gravitas to my campaign for SportsJournalists.com honors in 2007.

69 is too trashy a number.

Try something like 36 Double Down.
