The WMGK (Classic Rock in Philadelphia) Top 500 Countdown is a fraud.
For what has to be the first time in NYC/Philly history Springsteen's "Thunder Road" isn't in the countdown. In the 80s and 90s it was a perennial Top 10/Top 20 song. This year, it doesn't make the Top 500?
The full countdown can be seen here:
    http://www.wmgk.com/news/story.aspx?id=1235871
(Hopefully the link works as it's supposed to be available to registered members only)

The Top 25 on this fraudulent list:
25 THIN LIZZY THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN
24 YES I'VE SEEN ALL GOOD PEOPLE
    23 BEATLES REVOLUTION
22 PAUL MCCARTNEY MAYBE I'M AMAZED
    21 AEROSMITH SWEET EMOTION
20 MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND BLINDED BY THE LIGHT
    19 ROLLING STONES GIMME SHELTER
    18 BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN JUNGLELAND
    17 LED ZEPPELIN BLACK DOG
    16 ELTON JOHN ROCKET MAN
15 AC/DC YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG
14 ROLLING STONES SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL
    13 JOURNEY DON'T STOP BELIEVING
    12 LED ZEPPELIN KASHMIR
    11 QUEEN BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY
    10 LYNYRD SKYNYRD FREE BIRD
9 PINK FLOYD WISH YOU WERE HERE
    8 BEATLES HEY JUDE
7 BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN BORN TO RUN
    6 PINK FLOYD COMFORTABLY NUMB
    5 AEROSMITH DREAM ON
    4 EAGLES HOTEL CALIFORNIA
3 KANSAS CARRY ON WAYWARD SON
    2 BEATLES SGT. PEPPER'S (REPRISE)/A DAY
1 LED ZEPPELIN STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN

(For the curious -- Satisfaction was No. 47, American Pie was No. 30, Baba O'Reilly was No. 247)

EStreet Joe: As I said to open this thread, while those are all huge rock songs, outside of MAYBE "Don't Stop Believing," there's not a single song from the past 30 years in their top 25.

I'm happy to say the SportsJournalists.com countdown will shake things up a bit in its top 25 ... and who knows, "Thunder Road" might even be there ...

As they say, stay tuned ... :)

Time to get back into it ... with one of the 1990s love them or hate them bands:

No. 124: 1979 -- Smashing Pumpkins (Also nominated: Today)

While the video does a good job of trying to catch a late-1970s vibe, I always liked the pic on the cover of the 45-inch single:

Anyone else spend a lot of quality time hanging out at the roller rink in junior high? Good times!

Time to run off another classic rock block. All of these artists received two votes:

No. 123: SUPERSTITION -- Stevie Wonder (also nominated: Living for the City)

No. 122: SMOKE ON THE WATER -- Deep Purple (also nominated: Highway Star)

    Another great opening riff!

No. 121:PAPA'S GOT A BRAND NEW BAG -- James Brown (also nominated: Soul Man)

No. 120: ZIGGY STARDUST -- David Bowie (also nominated: Under Pressure -- with Queen)

Here's a band that didn't quite fit in with the "grunge" era, but still was one of the great 1990s groups:

No. 119: LINGER -- The Cranberries (also nominated: Zombie)

Tough, tough to decide between those two songs. "Dreams" and several other songs on their first couple of albums were great, too.

Linger is one of the greatest post-breakup songs ever.

    As hinted at earlier:

No. 118: HEART OF GOLD -- Neil Young

Yes, James Taylor (and Linda Ronstadt) sang backup on this one.

Rather than post a video, here's the great gatefold shot from the LP. Joel Bernstein's pic of Neil reflected in a brass doorknob says so much:

Back to the 1990s we go. Because anybody who would stay up late compiling his own Memorial Day rock countdown is a true ...

No. 117: LOSER -- Beck (also nominated: "Girl")

You got my Cheez Whiz, boy?

No. 116: CROSSFIRE -- Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble (also nominated: Willie the Wimp)

One of the 1980s best guitarist ... a career cut short by a helicopter crash in 1990 near Alpine Valley Music Theater in Wisconsin. RIP.

No. 115: SUSPICIOUS MINDS -- Elvis

No. 114: BURNING LOVE -- Elvis

The King received four votes for four different songs. I decided to include all of them, and put the "comeback" Elvis songs here.

They're fine songs, but let's face it ... there's a reason people went for the Young Elvis stamp instead of the Old Elvis stamp.

    More from Mr. Presley later.

No. 113: GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS -- Motley Crue
No. 112: DR. FEELGOOD -- Motley Crue (also nominated: Live Wire)

    Headbangers' Ball, anyone?

You know, back when MTV played music videos.

Now get the hell off of my lawn!

We had three votes for the Eagles ... and, surprisingly, none of them were for "Hotel California."

    So we'll go with ...

No. 111: LYIN' EYES -- The Eagles

There also were votes for "Sad Cafe" and "Last Resort."

Mojo Nixon received no votes :)
