No. 248: DAMN! I WISH I WAS YOUR LOVER -- Sophie B. Hawkins

Damn! This song really came out 20 years ago? We're gettin' old, amigos.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No. 247: VENTURA HIGHWAY -- America

Of course, this song's even older ...

    ----------------------------------------------

No. 246: BOYS OF SUMMER -- Don Henley

Before he was trying to build the perfect ballad, Henley put out some good tunes in the 1980s.

No. 245: SUCKED OUT -- Superdrag

A forgotten gem from 1996. It's cool how they have all the references to vinyl in this song.

A sentimental song that really connected:

No. 244: LIVING YEARS -- Mike + The Mechanics

Mike, of course, would be Mike Rutherford from Genesis. Paul Carrack is on vocals for this one.

Had to have one from these guys:

No. 243: SUGAR KANE -- Sonic Youth

First became aware of Sonic Youth when they opened for Neil Young and Crazy Horse on their 1991 tour (I saw the show in St. Louis).

This song, from the album "Dirty," came out a year later. I'd swear, at the end of the guitar freakout in the middle of the song, the boys throw in a riff from "Country Home" as a shout-out to Neil Young.

    Or maybe I'm just crazy.

This made me laugh so hard I think I woke the neighbours (PS: Find something from "Waking Up The Neighbours" by Bryan Adams for the top 300!).

I, too, saw the Damn Yankees/Bad Company/TATTOO RODEO MAN HOW COULD YOU FORGET TATTOO RODEO show in the summer of '91. I think it was right before I started college. Jesus effin Christ that's 20 years ago now. Great show, even if at 17 I was like "This Nuge shit is cheesy."

That Bad Co. lineup was pretty good, albeit for someone who didn't know much if anything of the old Bad Co at that point. I can imagine fans from the '70s being pissed, but "Holy Water" was a GREAT AOR album. "If You Needed Somebody"--c'mon that's a great power ballad!

Great countdown, other than "I Remember You" being buried at no. 299. You suck!!!! :D

No. 242: FREE MONEY -- Patti Smith

Certainly one of the more unique performers of the 1970s. Great pick!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No. 241: CRASH -- The Primitives

Another unique artist -- they're from the late 1970s, early 80s I think

I don't recall Tattoo Rodeo opening the show I attended (which was at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Mo.) Yeah, my first year of college ... we're old, bro!

Well ... it is a better song than "Brandy" :D

No. 240: PROMISED LAND -- Chuck Berry

This one's from 1964, from one of rock's pioneers (needless to say) who still can be seen live in his hometown of St. Louis.

    No. 239: NOTHING COMPARES 2 U -- Sinead O'Connor

A great ballad (written by Prince) which eventually was overshadowed by her "fight the real enemy" slam on Pope John Paul II during an SNL performance.

Time for a classic rock block of songs getting a single vote ...

No. 238: TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN -- Steve Miller
No. 237: JUST WHAT I NEEDED -- The Cars
No. 236: I'M TELLING YOU NOW -- Freddy and the Dreamers
No. 235: CAN'T YOU SEE -- Marshall Tucker Band
No. 234: BLUE MORNING, BLUE DAY -- Foreigner
No. 233: MIDNIGHT BLUE -- Lou Gramm
No. 232: AIN'T WASTIN TIME NO MORE -- Allman Brothers
No. 231: LOVE IS THE DRUG -- Roxy Music

    and:

No. 230: MORE THAN A FEELING -- Boston

(live footage from a show at Giants Stadium, late 1970s)

Yeah, I know this song is overplayed like crazy on Classic Rock (TM) radio, but you've got to love Tom Scholz. A mechanical engineering grad who loved to shake it like a Polaroid picture ... dropped out of the corporate scene, founded Boston, rocked out on his own homemade guitar amp, and spread the gospel of vegetarianism and Greenpeace around the world.

    We salute you, Tom!

    A couple from the 2000s:

No. 229: COME UNDONE -- Robbie Williams
No. 228: CRAZY -- Gnarls Barkley

    -------------------------------------------------

And a true classic from the 1970s:

No. 227: MARQUEE MOON -- Television

A lost gem and a great choice from Trey Beamon.
