Well, I'm booked in what looks like a grand hotel. And I'm buying tickets. I just hope I get to use them. News from the doctor today not all that good so I'm less optimistic but will hold out hope until the end. Hotel, fortunately, has a liberal cancellation policy.

I really, really want to go but I'm not going without the classy portion of the couple.

Hope you and the better half make it and that she's OK, Moddy.

(And before anyone thinks "better half" is a crack, I think Moddy and I would agree these two dickheads both married up. Way up. Skyscraper up.)

    Thanks much.
And we both indeed balanced well. We're lower than low, they're higher than high. Though clearly lacking in taste in men.

Well, they're both teachers so they have a lot of patience for the slow kids.

It's like a Christmas special over here. Except, it's only May.

David Lee Roth is more colorful than the Christmas tree.

I'm in for the hotel (game later), but why do I have this feeling I may be the only Yank?
    If you're in, say aye.
    Hell, just post you're in.
    Thanks.

Patchs, don't worry -- there's a handful of us that are in all the way, like Chris Moneymaker. I hope the others can make it -- more importantly, I hope the health concerns of Mrs. Moddy clear up, whether she attends or not. That's a tad more important than our silly rendezvous.

Judging by the response, you won't be the only American at the get together.  But would hanging out with the Canadian contingent be so bad?  :D

Moddy - please tell the Mrs. that we're thinking about her and SportsJournalists.com DC '05 wouldn't have been the same without her. :)

Yeah, would be fun to see who's all in and who isn't (HC?JR?) :)

And since it looks like the contingent might be heavily favoured toward folks from across the border (and not the one with recent Bush troops guarding it) ... here's a funny joke a Canadian friend sent me:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: How many Canadians does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A: Twelve. Four to form a Parliamentary study committee to decide how to solve the problem, one Francophone to complain that I didn't translate this joke into French, one Native Canadian to protest that the interests of Native Canadians have been overlooked, one woman from the National Action Committee On the Status Of Women to say that women have been underrepresented in the process, one to go over the border to the Niagara Falls Factory Outlet Mall and buy a new bulb and not pay duty on it on the way back, one to actually screw it in, one to collect taxes on the whole procedure so the government can afford it, one to buy a case of Molson for everybody to drink, and one to drop the puck.

Really, Moddy? I called today to reserve a second room on the off chance we might need it, and they said I had to cancel by next Friday to avoid charges. Six weeks out is their rule.
