Vitriol Ad-hominem attacks on other posters. Used to be more frequent, believe it or not.

I don't believe it. Wait -- with the recent absence of trounced, hondo and lyman -- yes, I do.

I'm staying the fuck out of this, but I think it's worth noting, Dye, that your response is almost twice as long as the post you're responding to. Certainly not the first time that's ever happened here, but in this case, one would think you'd let this shit the fuck go, since your protestations and juvenile insults clearly don't do much. I'm just sayin'.

It's true, Doc. Back when this board and its antecedents were in an unmoderated form (before my time), it was bloodsport.

It was lengthy, but it was just too tempting to pass up pointing out the flaws in the argument from someone who acts as if he takes the high road, but then engages in the same thing he criticizes. Then he's too dumb to realize he does it.

I'm sorry, but if I passed that up, I'd spend the next 5 years wondering what I forgot to do.

You are right in that the whole thing is idiotic. The only thing more idiotic is the two dumbfuck posters here who continue to post a BS version of it.

Roll call: How many of us are here from the Anon x:xx era? And as an aside, I'm 99.44% certain that this site had already broken away from sportspages.com before Wally Matthews, 21's recollection notwithstanding.

I was in the anon group for a brief period of time. I think that board was only up for a couple of weeks after I signed on. Wish I could remember my number.

Dooley's right about the un-moderated version of this board -- not a pretty picture. But there was a lot of funny shit on that board. Loads of it. And lots of fights.

    Good times.

I'm proud to say I'm from that Anon group. Of course, saying that, geez, you'd think I'd have more posts.

    My contribution:

Freeman's rant: While 21 is correct in proclaiming the Wallace Matthews affair as a watershed moment for the board (whichever incarnation that was), it was actually Mike Freeman who first jumpstarted the old, old Sportspages forum with a long post about his experiences dealing with the teasing and harrassment from his colleagues on the New York Jets beat. Plenty of reaction, for and against, was followed up, and the board, up to that point a vast wasteland, became a happenin' place.

Cheese cracker: Mentioned, but not explained. A synonym for I'd hit it, born out of the board's umpteenth thread ripping Roger Clemens. In this one, a debate broke out about the hotness of Roger's wife, Debbie Clemens, and a poster, I forget who, came up with the succint observation: "I would eat Debbie Clemens like a cheese cracker."

Cheese cracker was coined by Chris_L, who also was the first of a handful of posters who would rack up a bunch of posts, nuke himself and start all over. Chris took about a year off before returning as Lou Merloni, but if you added up all his posts since 2002, I bet he'd still be in the top 10.

He is also as gay as the day is long. Not that there's anything wrong with that. :D

Not That There's Anything Wrong With That: Usually indicates that the posters definitely thinks there is something wrong with whatever "that" may be. Taken from the Jennifer Aniston movie "The Object of my Affection," in which it was first uttered by Alan Alda. Often seen in it's shorthand form "NTTAWWT."

I think Chris also brought the Bunny With The Pancake On Its Head.

We can probably credit him with bringing "attention whore" to prominence on this board as well because he used to post a picture of an attractive woman doing a handstand in a bikini that said, "Look at me! I'm an attention whore!"

He also used to start random Eye Candy threads, in which he simply posted pictures of semi-hot women. Oddly, most of the pictures looked as if they were taken in the late 80s. I believe there were about 9 of those threads, Eye Candy 7 being one of the best. Those threads were the impetus for the stricter policy about links.

It was certainly less predictable in those days. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)
