    True that.

If you're getting into it with Alma, you better bring a howitzer-sized brain to the table ... and a thesaurus.

And don't forget the time Wallace Stevens showed up posted this:

I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
    It made the slovenly wilderness
    Surround that hill.

The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.

    It took dominion every where.
The jar was gray and bare.
It did not give of bird or bush,
    Like nothing else in Tennessee.

This freaking place blew up after that one.

I once wrote a paper on a Wallace Stevens poem, although not this fine tribute to those who develop in the wilderness.

It was much like reaching repeatedly into one's rectum, extracting long threads, then reaching in again and again.

The monthly question, "So did anybody READ the fucking book?"

Yeah, we should start another book club. 21, you're up.

Wasn't it Wallace Matthews who posted that? The famous Matthews Rant? Sure, the whole Tennessee jar thing, I remember. I'm sure I'm right about this.

Hel-lOOOOO, I delivered the Great Dave Kindred here in a freakin limo, did I not? Did y'all READ the fucking book?? I DON'T THINK SO!!

I will think about it. It's going to be a sports-related book, I know that much.

Pick the Kindred book because I have already read it and discussed it.

You're right. It was Wallace Matthews with that Modernist classic: 'The Anecdote of outing Piazza.'

Actually, to clarify, I guess Stevens' work was 'The Anecdote of tthe Rebuttal to the Attempted Outing of Piazza.'

Just wondering: Does anyone actually have a copy of The Freeman Rant?

I recall that every person I spoke to that day mentioned some website, Sportspages, with this wild rant on it. And everyone was commenting on it....most using their real names.

I also remember thinking, a message board? People actually do that? Dopey people sitting on the internet all day and night, spouting nameless and faceless opinions? Talkradio on a website? Who would DO that??

    Heh.
