SJ.com Style Guide!!! (running thread)

Reading those archives is like looking at a kindergarten class picture on high school graduation day. BYH had 4K posts and was still known by his full name, Gutter was a junior member, a few people who seemed to drop off the face of the earth between now and then.

I started lurking in Fall 2003, so I was around for a lot of that but not participating.

 

At least you were around for it.
I have heard of a lot of the old posters from reading threads here, but it was strange to read their posts.
It was also interesting to see how usernames have evolved over the years and to see present users who have few posts, who also posted way back when. Now I know why some seemingly newbie posters come off as complete assholes: It is because they have been posting on this site in some incarnation for 6 years or so.

 

Wrong. WE never said there weren't pissing matches.

We said that it didn't jump from thread to thread for the most part. I may have called Mizzou a douche D) on one thread, but agreed with him on another. It's now that people seem to stalk from thread to thread.

We were like one big dysfunctional family. We fought, but we made up. What struck me about the shoutouts thread was it was still shoutouts on page 18 or whatever. Now, it would have been nothing but pissing and moderators' threatening by page 5.

 

AF peaked in the earliest days of this board, when he reposted an old old post he had saved from the sportspages board. It was a nothing little post about a writer no one had ever heard of, and no one could believe he had saved it (or reposted it). The thread was hilarious....everyone asking what else he saved....used kleenexes, earwax, cans of lard....somehow we got into a discussion about the uses for the plastic rings that hold six-packs together. Spaceman said he stacks them up, duct tapes them together, and uses them for a toothbrush/q-tip holder. There was also some discussion about hazards to wildlife if you don't dispose of the rings properly.

Yes, I know it's very fucked up that I remember this crap.

More than that, though....the fighting was much higher quality. Thicker skin, solid comebacks, no whining.

That's why sportswriter lost...she whined. Well, there was other stuff too, but in the end, she whined, and you don't come to an anonymous message board to whine.

I know I've seen shreds of the anti-shoutout thread archived somewhere....I want to say it was the fall of 2003, altho i also recall a huge explosive feud in August 2003 (Boom and I were on vacation, trying not to respond to spnited calling us Brenda and Eddie 8) , so i know it was August). I don't know....I'll look around.

 

We were fast and shifty and light on our feet, but we couldn't go the distance.

 

Speaking of A_F, he hasn't been around the last few months. Wonder what his new board name is?

He had talked about changing names when he got to a certain post count.

 

Wait until football season. Whoever starts a gambling or Vick thread (and isn't named Chuck~Taylor) is your guy.

 

Haha, good point. Speaking of Chuck, haven't seen him around either.

 

Maybe it is because of his NBA vs. MLB arguments where he was babbling about the NBA being more popular than baseball and baseball dying.

 

He's on summer vacation.
