    I'm not convinced he won't.

he'll either win or be runner-up.

even if he doesn't win, ingram might have the most impressive calves. there's a photo of him on page 45 of SI that shows him chewing up turf -- and his cantaloupe-sized calves in full explosion. they are impressive.

All the offensive players this year suck. As such, this vote:
    1. Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
    2. Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
    3. Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida
    Discuss.

None of your guys will be at the Award Ceremony.

Now if we are talking the first two picks in the NFL draft, Suh and Cody might make for a discussion.

    But Heisman? Nope.

If I were going defense I'd go Pat Angerer (Iowa)

Just for fun and because I was curious.
If you exclude USC, the Pac-10/West Coast has had three winners.
And none since 1970. The winners, all quarterbacks, were:
    Jim Plunkett, Stanford, 1970
    Gary Beban, UCLA, 1967
    Terry Baker, Oregon State, 1962
Gerhart, who only entered the radar screen in the last month or so, doesn't seem like he has the national profile to get enough votes to win.

Jay, Probably true. But I watch a lot of college football--not just one team and not on a beat, but for work--and in my opinion he is really deserving. I also realize everyone and their uncle has a Heisman vote, but if you are going to use it in good conscience you shouldn't be a person for whom Gerhart has just been on the radar screen for the last month. He has been ridiculously good since Week One, and early in the season he had the Washington game in which he went off for 200 yards, including one long run for a TD. By the UCLA game he was ripping off games every week with anywhere from 100 to 225 yards and 3 rushing TDs a week. At the same time, Stanford was putting together a really good season. If you are going to take it upon yourself (not you Jay, but anyone) to vote for the Heisman, you should question why you didn't know who Toby Gerhart was before Stanford knocked off USC before sending in the ballot.

That the Stanford picture wasn't of Jim Plunkett is a shock. Who has taken over his log-on?

I think that picture was done by Texas to sabotage Gerhart and boost McCoy.
