And the winner, with nearly twice as many votes as the runner-up....and the first white running back to win the award since John Cappelletti took the trophy home to Joey in 73 is Toby Gerhart, Stanford.

    1. Toby Gerhart
    2. Colt McCoy
    3. Mark Ingram
    4. Tim Tebow
    5. Ndamukong Suh

I think Gerhart will win because he saved his most memorable games for the end of the year, McCoy did not have a good final two games (both nationally televised) and no one won it this weekend.

I'll give you the Big 12 title game as being a stinker, but he had 473 total yards and 4 TD passes against A&M in his previous (and nationally televised) game.

    Don't have a vote, but I'd go:

    1. Gerhart
    2. Ingram
    3. Suh

This is why stats in a vacuum are ridiculous. I am assuming you watched the game?

A&M didn't put a lick of defense on the field and McCoy was 24 for 40--not that impressive. Most of his passes were screens and dump offs and Jerrod Johnson (A&M's quarterback) actually went 26 for 33 (more impressive than McCoy) and threw for more yards (342 yards). And even though Texas' defense didn't show up for that game, Johnson was (not arguably, just fact) passing against the much better defense.

Like the Nebraska game, Texas won, but it wasn't McCoy who carried his team on his back. In the A&M game, after Johnson's fourth TD pass (same as McCoy), the score was 42-39. It was Marquis Goodwin who put the kibosh on any thoughts of an upset, though, when he ran the kickoff right afterward back for a 95-yard TD return. Then A&M missed a field goal that could have still made it a game.

McCoy wasn't the best player on his own team in the A&M game. And his stats don't tell the story about that game. He threw the ball 40 times and was the beneficiary of a lot of catch and runs.

Suh's major problem (other than being a defensive player) is until last night, Nebraska got virtually no national exposure. I think only one Nebraska game was even televised on the East Coast prior to last night.

    StiffArmTrophy.com Heisman Voter Exit Poll.

    Hey folks --

Once again, I'm organizing an exit poll of Heisman voters at StiffArmTrophy.com. For seven out of seven years, we've correctly projected the winner - including last year, when a lot of others got it wrong.

Why do this? First, because it's interesting and fun. Second, because I believe - like many of you - in transparency. Every year, we hear about Heisman voters that are no longer working journalists, don't cover college football, etc. But the Heisman Trust keeps the voter list a big ol' secret. So, I've published a list of 580+ of the 926 voters (and more every day.)

Anyway, if you're a Heisman voter, let me know how you voted. Either post a note at StiffArmTrophy.com - or send me a note via Twitter.

The two big wins for McCoy are OU and Nebraska and in both games he was pedestrian.

  11. The award is for the best collegiate football player. To me, that makes this a no brainer.

    1. Suh
    2. Gerhart

    Gerhart
    Ingram
    McCoy
    Suh
Tebow all get invites to NYC. Just announced on ESPN. Tim Brown said he voted for Gerhart, FWIW.

I bet Suh gets first or second.
