Just saw this ... he's one of the good guys here and one with whom I've discussed job situations "in real life."

Hang in there SteveU, we're all pulling for a full recovery.

Know a guy who was in mid 30s and had a stroke. Was pretty bad, but he did recover. Hopefully the same for SteveU.
Just know him from here, but sounds similar in that pretty much everyone likes both guys. Get better SteveU.

For what it's worth, the talk of putting in a permanent breathing setup is not bad news in and of itself. It always worries people when they see that happen. They put in a permanent trach tube because the other breathing tube goes in through the nose and after a time it becomes irritating as hell. The trach tube means putting a plastic tube into the trachea below the larynx, attached to a plate sewn down outside the neck and running a controlled flow of air through it. Looks scary but it is much easier on the patient.

    Best wishes, Steve.

If I ever end up on a breathing tube, just cut it off and end it.

But at least jack me off and give me a happy ending as I fade to Jeebus.

My kid was on one for a month while he was in a coma. If you met him today, odds are you'd have no idea it ever happened.

'Fraid we'll have to disagree on that one. That's why I posted what I did.

Yeah, the other one can permanently screw up the vocal cords.

It also hurts like sumbitch after a week or so. The nasal passages and throat get abraded and raw from having a tube shoved through them.

    Waldo and Spike,

Extremely not important question at the moment, getting well is the priority, but is there any sign of what might have caused Steve’s stroke at such a young age?

One of my female co-workers had a stroke in her late 20s or early 30s, and it was caused by some extremely rare adverse reaction to a birth control pill that she was taking.

I’m personally concerned about my own health, stress, and slamming way, way too much Diet Coke, as in about ten cans a day. I’ve got to cut this shit way back, for both caffeine and aspartame reasons. Going to switch to flavored sparkling water.

Anyway, I fear what all of these massive energy drinks are doing to people.

Everything in moderation, but our society and marketing are so geared toward driving people to way over do things, to their own detriment.

Strokes are strange - a cause may never be known. If Steve’s is determined and he’s willing to share, I’m curious as to what might have been such an early trigger. We could all perhaps learn something.

    Continued best wishes, Steve.

No question. I’m thinking I will head over on Wednesday because I’ve got OT on one of my days off. Y’all know how that goes.

Be concerned. We’ve talked about this around the office. While Steve is a character, and a great one at that, it was his diet that caused this. He’d bring in a 2-liter every day and lived basically on the go to the fast food diet. I love the guy to death, but it wasn’t my right to tell him how to LIVE his life.

He never drank an energy drink, at least in my presence. I had a stroke a few years back before I went to Daytona and yeah they are bizarre in how they come. I also had a pacemaker put in me last year because of a low heart rate. Probably because of how hard I’ve lived my life. Here’s the thing, I wouldn’t change anything except to be better with my lifestyle.

Make sure your lifestyle is better. Because as we all k ow, you work in this business and your lifestyle goes three sheets to hell on a hand basket.
