SJ's biggest fans

They have a reason to be lukewarm w/the Nats, who carry themselves, from the top on down to the very bottom, with an arrogance unbecoming their achievements, or lack thereof. Add into the equation the likelihood this current group's window slams shut this year and you can see why people aren't all that enamored. They'll still be pretty good with that farm system, but they become a lot less interesting once Bryce is gone and Max is on the downside, unless Strasburg's annual trip to the DL finally comes with a personality transplant.

 

If he can make something out of that pitching staff, it would be more impressive than walking on water or turning water to wine.

 

31k attendance average over the last 5 or so years. Middle of the pack but Low for repeated division champs. Pretty good for a team that has never won a post season series? I love the Stadium and it’s a great inside the ballpark experience. Not as nice as Camden Yards from the outside but better inside. Metro is only 1 stop a couple blocks away and they don’t run late and Parking is getting shitty as the neighborhood turns from crap to gold.

I’m a life long Yankees fan who has lived in the MD DC burbs for years. I really like the Nats and the games are constantly on in my house, mostly as background. Go to a few games a year and the crowds are smart and into the game. Redskins suck. Orioles are Shitshow. Caps choke. Wizards are decent now but they have less local juice than the Nats. Hoyas are a D3 team basically.

DC is not a great sports town but it’s pretty good. They go to games but most have real lives and don’t live and die by the team. They do more than dig coal, roll steel, get drunk and root every Sunday afternoon so they can forget their shitty lives.

 

They blew it at inception when they chose the name. We discussed it here at the time, but Nationals is such a blah name. As I said then, how much cooler would they be as the Washington Truth?

The older I've got, the more the sports tree has been trimmed. I still consume a lot of the written word, but the Dodgers are the only team that I will listen to and/or watch almost every game.

I'm a Kings hockey guy, but don't watch many regular season games. I'm all in on the playoffs however.

NFL is on the TV most Sundays, but mostly as background. Same with college football on Saturdays.

I was once a huge Lakers fan but I don't think I've seen a full NBA game in 10 years and rarely watch college hoops. I’ll watch my mid major alma mater the two times per year they are televised mostly out of obligation.

 

I wanted the Washington Wombats, where WOMBAT is an acronym meaning Waste Of Money, Brains And Time.

Sums up DC and NOVA perfectly.

 

In theory, a Gausman-Bundy-Cashner trio isn't horrendous. I have no fucking clue who starts the fourth and five days, however. I can't deal with any more Tillman.

 

Those three are No. 3 or No. 4 starters on good staffs, at best, though. At the top of a rotation, it is horrendous.

 

Going to second this feeling. Having covered sports for years, I really have no interest in rooting for teams on any serious level. I am happy if my alma mater wins, but couldn’t even name a player in the football program and maybe a handful of the basketball guys.

As for the pros, I read the paper everyday and follow leagues, but don’t watch any of it. My wife, who married me after I left the business, jokes she can’t imagine me having been a sports writer because of it.

I don't know whether to be heartened or insulted that I haven't been mentioned. Remind me of this post when an underseeded Michigan State sends the Wahoos home in the sweet 16.
