    Because this is how we minimize people ... we assign labels to them that are then used pejoratively. eg: inclusive vs. politically correct.

    To make clear the Times isn't accusing Trump lying but rather it was Comey. That's pretty standard.

    Comey called Trump a liar. Comey did not call Trump a "liar". The quotation marks change the meaning, but you guys and gals know that.

    Nice to have my own thread though. :cool:

    Saying you think it's "nice" to have a thread of your own is the same thing as saying JTFM thinks "it's nice to have my own thread."

    One paraphrases your point and includes the word you used to describe the feeling of having your own thread. The other directly quotes what you said. They are the same thing.

    The Times paraphrased but emphasised Comey called Trump's statements lies. The Post used a direct quote. They accomplish the same thing and putting lies in quotes does not change the meaning and you know it.
