This SNL has otherwise been rather worthless, but that Stefon segment may have been the best ever.

I thought Alec Baldwin playing the captain who booted Baldwin off the plane was a funny touch.

I thought Katy Perry did a fine job in sketches. She could have some acting chops.

Kristen's new character (the flirt) was funny... she really does need to retire a few characters, but this one was good. I just hope they don't run it into the ground.

The last sketch with Katy and Bobby Moynihan was actually quite funny. It had a surprising payoff at the end... I don't know why they buried that sketch right at the end of the show.

I halfway wonder if he doesn't see the script until it's live. He laughs like it is the first time he's seen it.

Thought the same on both accounts. Funny sketch... not sure why it was buried. Also a groundbreaking episode (well...at least to me), in that I found something Armisen doesn't absolutely fuck up. He and Hader had me rolling with the royals.

Actually, not a bad show last night all-round. The New Year's Eve movie spoof was decent. The digital short was better than average, and that Michigan State japanese thing is growing on me.

He doesn't. He co-writes the Stefon segments (although I can't remember right now which of the regular writing staffers handles them with him) and they often change it up between dress and the live show. Since Lorne insists that the cast use cue cards, he's often seeing the changes for the first time on stage.

I'm kind of liking the Japanese thing too, although Bayer has the same problem she's always had, and lisa just alluded to it -- the cue cards.

I've never seen her in a sketch where it's not obvious that she's looking to them.

OK, that's hilarious. No wonder he's always covering his mouth to keep from cracking up.

And jr, the staring at the cue cards thing has bothered me for years. I know they're doing rewrites on the fly but a lot of folks look like they've never seen the material at all - even with characters they have done for years.

What strikes me funny, Inky, is that about half the guest hosts nowadays are less dependent on the cue cards than the castmembers. In fact, that's one of the main ways I identify a better-than-average host.

I don't think Perry looked at the cards nearly as much as some of the cast last night.

I laughed out loud a lot at this week's Stefon. Favorite bits: diabeetus, some guy's mom, and A Fish Named Kwanzaa.
