Dammit. You pull out the exact same bad-cakes-on-a-cooking-show sketch ... you just aren't trying hard enough. It wasn't that great the first time.

Since the “every six shows” joke was made, I’m not sure if this PDD sketch getting cut for time was intentional or not. This wasn’t as funny as the Dakota Johnson roast, but it’s still good.

SNL bringing in some of the heavy hitters to end the year.

Also, some great pictures and candids from figures through the history of the show in this link.

Sure, this is a historically destructive year for America, but we got Dana Carvey back every week on SNL, so we've got that going for us.

The earing sketch was pretty weird for that point in the show.

That last sketch left me wondering if there was anything else that could have replaced it.

I felt this way about every sketch after the cold open.

Yeah, as episodes go, this was a solid C-.

A few good Update jokes and a solid musical guest might have gotten it there. The rest of the show was a dud.

This master cut of all the intros from 50 years is great -- everybody from start to finish, even the "blink and you'll miss them" cast members like Laurie Metcalf or Ben Stiller.

Definitely one of the "we're long for time" need to stretch episodes. Were they expecting more applause for Church Lady and Spade? I will say though - if the ONLY reason they booked Mescal as host (the love child of Jason Priestly and Aiden Quinn?) was for that Gladiator 2 the Musical bit - it was worth it. ( I don't even mind NBC continuing to dry hump the hell out of Wicked, or using their sketch material as ads and vice-versa)

And kinda fun when you google shaboozey. Don't know if his marketing people pay for it, or Google does it on its own.

Glad to see they gave Sarah Sherman a sketch she could lead almost on her own, rather than primarily bounce off others.

And damn, Emil Wakim does look like the Luigi dude.
