I’m 30 minutes into the music special. Not sure I’ll finish tonight but hold my cow, this is fucking fantastic.

I realized as it happened there's no better way to end than with Hey Jude, but I went into the show thinking the best way to end it would have been w/footage from the impromptu U2 concert during the credits sometime around the mid-00s. I remember the cast joyfully joining in and Amy Poehler crying. It's hard to nitpick given how great that doc was, but I do wish they'd found a place to talk a bit about that. (And personally, I would have loved to see the Foo Fighters' scorching version of "Walk," which might be my favorite SNL performance ever, but we're all going to have requests like that

I bet it was. That's terrible. And I'd guess many of them are no longer with us after nearly 25 years.

That was a highly entertaining three hours (well, probably two without commercials).

As was noted, the montage in the first 10 minutes was award-worthy on it's own.

My only surprise was there didn't seem to be any Springsteen at all. He was on a bunch.

The SNL love affair with Rudy was so strong then that when Rudy left the mayor's office at the end of 2001, Jimmy and Tina serenaded him with "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" during the last Update before Christmas.

Even when Jimmy took over the Tonight show in 2014, he was one of the celebs they had cameo to pay off a bet to Jimmy that he would never host the show.

Got a chance to watch the SNL music doc on Peacock since I couldn't watch it live, and it was stupendous.

My only small, small quibble: I wish they would've talked a little more about the production of some of the other musical pre-tapes. I know "Lazy Sunday" and "Dick in the Box" set the path that the rest follow, but I would've liked to hear more about "Twin Bed," which was my favorite.

Nice little move for Questlove to sneak a very brief clip near the end of the Roots' only SNL appearance. No mistaking the big 'fro behind a drum set.

People were well sick of Rudy before 9/11 but being omnipresent in those couple of weeks after played entirely to his look at me traits.

Did the Replacements sneaking booze into the dressing room and getting drunk with Harry Dean Stanton make the cut?

I don't know how they'll break it down. Real people? Characters? WU "guests"? I do hope Jebidiah Atkinson makes the field, but I know he'd probably be one and done. They could fill a 64-slot bracket I'm sure. Matt Foley, Wayne and Garth, Church Lady, Debbie Downer, Mr. Robinson, Gumby, The Coneheads, Emily Latella, Bill Murray's lounge lizard, the Blues Brothers,
