Honestly, as far as boy band tunes go, it didn't sound all that bad to me. The overdone choreography was pretty silly though.

And to think, One Direction made headlines this week for turning down Michelle Obama's invitation to perform at the White House Easter Egg Roll tomorrow. I'm thinking Michelle's happy they declined.

One band, one dream, one direction. I celebrate their entire catalogue.

The name, the black shirts...Mussolini came back from the dead as a boy band manager.

And what's wrong with having Sofia shoved in your face? :)

I didn't think One Direction was bad at all. Hell, having sat through NSync and Backstreet Boys, I wondered if I was having some sort of a flashback.

At least they dusted off some skits that hadn't been done in a while (Manuel Ortiz Show!! Yes!!!)

I guess its just me - thought the show was pretty good. Good Romney, good monologue, even a pretty funny Gilli (mainly due to Moynahan's books) - and of course Drunk Uncle.

Let's be fair - Vergara isn't exactly a good host for the show. Her accent completely ruins any hope at her doing any skit.
Decent enough show. I already told my wife I want the Just Friends shorts and the Not Gay tank for Halloween.

    It's a boy band. Let's ease up. [/BSBFanBoi]

As for the new featured player, I thought her work as Penelope Cruz was inspired. Very relaxed and composed for her first show.

The Fran Drescher impersonation wasn't bad, but yeah, that was pretty much the only thing she brought to the table. I'm not sure why she hosted; she doesn't have the sort of range you normally see in a host, or the sort of uber-celebrity, since she's one of 9-ish leads on the best family sitcom on another network.

That being said, I thought the show was average. Except for Bobby M., Gilly sucked, and it was another show that inexplicably had zero Jay Pharoah. But I liked Drunk Uncle on Update (he and Stefan are solid characters) and the Zooey Deschanel Show skit is good too. If the rumors of Wiig and Armisen gone are true, I hope the extra time goes to Bobby M., since he's at least chuckle-worthy in most skits.

Mr. Goldkamp, you're not gonna like THIS rundown.

  11. I agree the Drescher skit was the best. I just felt like she didn't have the range to really hit on what makes a good show for me. To be perfectly honest, her voice got really annoying toward the end of the show. I have no problem with the accent, but it seemed like they almost asked her to overdo it on purpose. It had a screechy element to it that distracted me from the actual skits and sketches.

The comments on One Direction at the end were pretty priceless.

Also, Wiig's impersonation of Drew Barrymore is about as dead-on as any SNL has done recently. When the cast nails an impersonation, it makes the show. Hope they can find more good fits like that.
