I think it's interesting to see how polarizing the show can be at times - One poster says everything but the open sucked, and another one says the political skits are the worst part of the show now. (For the record, I thought last night's was pretty good.)

Overall, I thought the show was solid. Even if all Jay Pharoah can do is impressions, I'd rather see him do Jay-Z or Denzel for a couple minutes than another Horrible Singers on Update skit with Wiig. But I thought Laser Cats 7 was funny (how do they get all these guys to agree to it?), as was the other digital short.

  2. I'm probably forgetting one or two, but other than Drunk Uncle and Stefon are there any other characters on Weekend Update that are really good? Seems very hit or miss.

I like when Andy Samburg does Nick Cage, but since they had the real Nick Cage on the other month, that skit is probably done.

Has he done Wahlberg since he came on?

I don't think so, but then again, if they did that, they wouldn't be able to have Kristen Wiig in 15 sketches a night.

One of the things I don't like about SNL when they do a lot of music-heavy skits - it shreds what they can air on-line. They cut the open, the slo-mo high school, the Jay-Z skit and the Game of Thrones bit.
Didn't mind losing the open. It was pretty uninspired.

    Oh god, that was painful.

  8. Political skit sucked and Eli was not great in the intro, but the 50 Shades of Gray skit was one of the better skits in a few weeks.

It sounded as if his voice was trying to escape the grasp of Von Miller

Anyone want to place bets on the possibility of a Peyton cameo?

eta: Why has Sacha Baron Cohen never hosted this show? Seriously, that's total missed opportunity.

because he's the least funny "person" ever to walk on the face of the earth?

Also, "That's how I throw a grenade" ended the funniest 10 seconds of Eli Manning ever.

Well that, and the faces during the trial. The skit itself was painful, but "hee hee and then (face)" made me giggle.

I'm well behind on this episode, and I know the song isn't exactly subtle ... but Christ, Rihanna, stay classy.
