Seth Myers has the worst timing for his lines I've ever seen. Even when he says funny stuff, he botches the delivery 3/4 of the time.

Worst Update anchor ever by 10,000 miles

But timing is so huge in comedy. I can't understand how he botches the timing of jokes.

    now that's a bold statement.

the era between Curtain/Ackroyd and Miller was nothing but bad anchors and after Miller it was slim pickings. Nealon wasn't all that great. MacDonald just kept trying to hammer home the same unfunny material like Germans love David Hasselhoff and Quinn wasn't right for the job and I think he knew it.
I'm no fan of Myers but I think we're judging him against Fey/Fallon and Fey/Poehler which were pretty good teams. Myers is bad, but not nearly as bad as some of the others in that role.

Kevin Nealon was great. Way underrated on Weekend Update.

How quickly people forget the Charles Rocket era on Update.

Charles Rocket gains street cred for being fired for dropping the F-word.

Ehhhh. I can understand not liking Meyers because he is kind of swarmy and annoying; he reminds me of Ryan from The Office. The writers like the character, and give him crap to do all the time, but I don't think anyone watching enjoys it. (I think a similar comparison can probably be made where Meyers is the head writer and keeps force-feeding us Kristen Wiig in 15 sketches a night.)

That being said though, he's at least competent in the anchor seat, and even on a bad night there are a couple jokes that make me laugh. He also facilitates Drunk Uncle and Stefon well enough, which always make me laugh. In contrast, those tapes from the 1980s have been sealed and shot into space, so while I can't personally know whether Charles Rocket or Brad Hall or Doyle-Murray was worse, I've never ever heard any other SNL fan pining for a return of them.

I do like the top of your list though, with the caveat that Norm should probably have two listings. I'm a big Norm fan, but when he's not funny, good god is it bad and uncomfortable.

To be fair to Meyers, I'm not sure there's any member of the current cast who could do much better.

I could see Sudeikis being good, but he's leaving.

I am one of the few (only) who enjoy Meyers on Weekend Update. I think his jokes are generally pretty clever, and he plays well off the "guests." Certainly there have been much better, but I don't get the hate for Meyers.

My kickball league's End of Season party is that the Moose Lodge on Friday night. The theme is "Friday Saturday Night Live[/s] and you're supposed to come dressed as a character from the show. Any advice on characters would be great. I'd love to do "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer" so I can reenact the scene of him drunk on the plane, but I don't know if I can pull off the makeup. Right now, I'm leaning toward "The Continental" and just trying to offer women "champanga" the whole night.

Continental would be good, but you're probably going to have competition for that. If you want to go more obscure, then the Anal Retentive Chef would be good. Or Gumby, damn it.
